“good value and in the city central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

The best part of this hotel is that it is convenient. If you know your way around Amsterdam, as we do, then you can jump on a tram and get around. But the rooms are small, but clean, and it comfortably slept (in 2 twin beds), and a tiny shower. No amenities, like coffee, food, and no frills. Staff was nice, but all business. We have since found the Hotel Schipol A4 and found a better value for the Euro. The only draw back of NOT staying in town, is that you have to get back to the airport to catch the hotel shuttle, otherwise, for the value, as Ibis JUST went way up on their price, I will probably stay at Hotel Schipol

I usually stay in this hotel when I'm in Amsterdam as it is right next to the Central Train Station and walking distance to almost all attraction points. I can not say that it is the cheapest one considering what u get against, but on an avarage, this hotel passes from my quality standarts.

I shall suggest the guests to stay (if possible) in the rennovated floors.

We stayed at the Ibis Amsterdam Centre for 7 nights in July. We couldn't fault the location. Next door to Centraal Station and a 5 minute walk to Dam Square. The Red Light district was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. There were 3 of us in a triple room and this was very tight. It was very hard to move and with our suitcases, it gave us even less space. Bathroom was tiny and no minibar/fridge in the room. Breakfast was not included, and very expensive at 15 Euro per person. There are many fast food and cafes close by where you can get cheaper food.

Staff were excellent, loctation is very good, but was pricey for an Ibis. Having to pay to use an iron is unreasonable and the (paid) internet connection does not allow more than one device to connect to the network.

First the good stuff: The hotel is superbly located right next to the railway station for when you arrive/leave Amsterdam and very close to the Tram terminus for getting around the City. We stayed in the block that actually straddles 2 of the railway platforms and it was always very interesting just to look out of the window and see what was going on in the station as well as all the shipping in the waterway behind. The sound insulation was excellent and noise was never a problem. The staff too were another good point - friendly and helpful when arranging to leave our luggage and when providing the voucher to use free Wifi in the lobby.
On the down side, though the room was superficially clean I noticed that the side of the bed was covered in a range of different stains and the sealant in the shower had the usual black marks. The other big problem was the cost of everything - 15 euros for a breakfast and 2.5 euros for a self service coffee or a canned drink from the vending machine.
