We paid about £60 per room per night for this hotel, including breakfast, which I think is a really good deal for this location. The room was an ok size, with double bed, desk, table and two chairs and a wardrobe. The wardrobe had a safe in it (always welcome), but there was no mini-bar (probably for the best!). The bed was very comfortable, alas, as it was Amsterdam, we didn't really spend enough time in it. Bathroom was clean, but carpet throughout the room was stained, however, really, in the grand scheme of things, does it matter? There was no Air con, but there was a large fan that was quiet. Didn't take any photos of the room, but it was one of the old-style ones.

Staff were pleasant and welcoming. Breakfast was weird, as breakfasts in hotels often are! Chives in eggs! Cucumber! AT breakfast!

Location is superb, but would probably not stay here again, just so that we could experience a different part of town. However, as I said at the beginning, for that sort of price, you can't go too far wrong.

Amsterdam was the last stop on our European Adventure and the Best Western Eden was a great base of operation-- especially if you like to walk and explore the way we do! Located on the Amstel River we walked everywhere -- didn't take public transpo until the morning we had to catch our flight home.

The hotel was clean with a roomy bathroom(though the carpet and wallpaper was a little worn looking in places). The beds were also pretty comfortable. We stayed on the 5th floor which was the non smoking floor. The room didn't smell at all like smoke though the hall smelled a little smoky.

The hotel had a couple of computers on the first floor with free internet access which was another plus but as they were free there was frequently a bit of a wait to get on.

Not the most fabulous place but nice and clean enough that you're not skeeved out .

  • Liked — location, decent bed, fairly clean room, big clean bathroom, cool view of amstel river
  • Disliked — no air conditioning in our room, strange wall decorations.

Despite alot of negative feedback me and my friend stayed here for 2 nights in July 2007. First of all if you are offered the chance to stay in the 'Apartments' (for want of a better word) then decline them, We were offered them and the way the staff speak it sounds like this is an upgrade, it is far from it. The apartments are small, shabby and dont look safe at all. We changed rooms and the room was average, although I have stayed in better rooms in Best Western hotels before. The main bugbear was that there was no mini bar. When we were at reception we overheard a couple who had had their bags stolen including credit cards etc just moments before we arived, For this reason we used the safe in the room and to be safe put the sign on the door so that the rooms wernt cleaned. A small price to bay for the safety of our belongings. To be fair the hotel lobby and bar looked quite posh and the concierge was happy to help. But I dont reccomend this hotel, there are probably better ones for the same price!

Me and a friend of mine stayed in this hotel during July 07 and it isn't as bad as some make out.

When we told the receptionist that we had reservation, she offered an apartment for free, so we accepted. The apartment was a 2 minute walk round the corner and was like some sort of youth hostel, so we asked for a room back in the hotel and they did it, but there was a couple there whose luggage was robbed whilst they were waiting to check in.

We used the free safes in the room to prevent any theft and the hotel was clean and comfortable and quite central.

I can see why some people have had bad experiences though.

we had no smoking rooms on 5th floor, they did look out over the rooms opposite but we were only there one night & there was no outside noises
The rooms were on the small side especially the single one which had a double bed but had everything one could need for a weekend break, the bed was the most comfortable ever!
Hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff helpful.
The location is ideal, just two metro stops from Central Station or tram stops nearby.
We didn't think the breakfast could be worth 16e each so we went to a big supermarket near the Rijksmuseum and sat in the park with some croissants and fruit salad - cost 16e for 3 of us.
We would stay there again and recommend it
