“Great location and inexpensive hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2010

It's true what they say you get what you pay for.
This hotel is actually at the back of the similarly named for added confusion Eden Rembrandt Square Hotel.
You can access the hotel via either lobby so the only major difference we found was the room quality. Our friends upgraded to the sister hotel on arrival and we decided to stay in this hotel.

The rooms are a little small but perfectly adequate, the bathroom however tended to flood and make the carpet in the small hallway of the room wet.
Other than this though the hotel more than made up for it in being well located for budget accommodation. Staff were helpful when you could find them but to be fair it was easy enough to walk through to the alternate reception for the sister hotel.

Overall a great budget hotel in a lovely location.

We were very pleased when arriving - the location is great - right on the Amstel, and the reception is nice. However, the staff were rather aloof with only minimal welcome. The lift is small and very slow. The room was a decent size but not a double - two singles pushed together.

The main problem was cleanliness. The bed linen and carpet was stained, some dubious smudges on the walls, filthy - and I mean filthy - coffee cups, dust on the bed side units and hairs in the bath.

I showed reception the state of the cups and told them we weren't happy with the room. They offered us an "upgrade". We checked the room before moving - it was no better, the bath looked even more unclean, so we stayed where we were and requested a change of bed linen.

There was barely an apology for any of this, instead a disregard bordering on arrogance, and in fact the staff all gathered round reception to listen while we raised the issue and it felt rather oppresive. I did not feel fully settled in the room at all and was disappointed by the hotel overall and the staff attitude. Someone else may have a better stay but I would not return.

Stayed here for a couple of nights would say that the positive far outway the negatives. Room was clean and comfortable and had a safe. My only complaint about the room would be that we had no view just a brick wall and that the bathroom door was glass with a large space at the top and bottom so not much privacy.
The reception staff were pleasant enough but were nothing special, the concierge was very friendly and helpful as were the housemaids. Had one drink in the bar but again service was ok but nothing very special.
The hotel is in a fantastic location - there are great bars, cafes and restaurants right on the hotels doorstep in rembrantplein or its also really handy for leidesplein and dam square.
Hotel is easy to get to either get tram #9 from centraal station or the metro to waterlooplein.
Would definatly stay here again.

We arrived too early to check in (around 11:30 or so) so the concierge put our luggage in a secured room until we could check in which is very helpful. The staff was very friendly and even offered to point out areas of interest on a map to us and tell us how to get there easily.
We walked everywhere - you really don't need top use the Metro as Amsterdam is fairly small and everywhere is an easy walk.
From Centraal station we walked down Damrak, which turns to Rokin then veer to the left a bit and it turns into Amstel, walk about 5 minutes and you come to the Hotel on the Right - incredibly easy to find and great loc. If you take the small street just before the Hotel (Bakkerstraat, I think) it will put you right in Rembrantplein which is a small party square with restaurants and what not.
We were in room 225 and it was wonderful! we had 3 windows overlooking the Amstel river (see pics). You will hear city noise but we are a young couple so that didn't bother us at all. Very clean room, fairly spacious room, small bathroom but that is to be expected so again, not a problem. We would DEF stay here again when we go back, we loved it!
Oh, very close to Kalverstraat!! Shop, shop, shop!!!

me and my wife stayed here 2-5 september 2010 we got into the dam at 10.00am made a slow walk to the hotel from central stopping on the way to the hotel for some breakfast.got to the hotel about 11.30am to see if we could leave the suitcase there so we did'nt have to carry around untill check in time 3pm.we was greeted by a very polite member of staff who took our names went off to do her computer stuff came back to say that they have upgraded us to a room with a canal view and that our room was ready.we got into our room on the 2nd floor (room 228) by 11.45am (not bad for a 3pm check in).we opened the door to find a very large room a very large bed and a very good view of the amstel canal.location was second to none 2 min walk to rembrant square 5 min from the flower market and flea market .would use again.

Just got back from am'dam and had a very enjoyable stay for 2 nights. Got there at 10a.m. to drop bags off and rooms were ready with an upgrade for me. Ended up on top floor (5th) at front with great views over Amstell. Large spacious room. Very comfy beds, made up as a double but was soon altered by staff to make into 2 singles. Can't say about breakfast as it seemed too pricey but there are plenty of places nearby. Best breakfast we had was at a cafe opposite the flower market 5 to 10 mins walk away. Bathroom very clean and all modern fittings. All staff give excellent service.
Booked in March so got a very good rate through Hotels.com. (£83 prpn)
A couple of very minor niggles, lift a bit slow and bottom of bath very slippy if having a shower but we enjoyed our stay and if we were in Amsterdam again, we would definitely stay here
