“Tidy room at a good price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

We booked quite late through a discounted website so were reserved about the quality of the hotel. We arrived early in Amsterdam so decided to walk from the main train station, although it is a good walk, it was manageable as we had very little luggage and stopped off en route for refreshments. The location was good for walking round to the Bloemenmarkt and Rembrandtplein. The front of the hotel belies the modern interior and the reception staff were very attentive and dealt with our booking efficiently. We had a prior request for two rooms together as there was a single elderly lady travelling, this request wasn't met. The room itself was moderate and presented well. A couple of strands of hair in the cosy shower and plastic bottle lid under the table meant that it didn't feel 'spotless'. The room was 'without a view' as the window was about 3 metres from a sheer wall. The double bed was positioned flush against the wall - one of my pet hates as one person has to clamber over the other or slide to the foot of the bed if a visit to the loo is needed during the night. Maybe it was a sign of the discounted price we'd paid - but as they say - you get what you pay for. Looks nice but ..not quite hitting the mark.

Room Tip: Request a bed that is accessible from both sides - if you prefer not to roll into a wall.

Late arrival to this hotel where I had booked a single std room (20 sqm). When I get to the room, big shock as it was probably the smallest room I had ever been seen, roughly 9 sqm. Back to the front desk it seems the larger rooms were all occupied (looks like a clear overbooking policy) and that only tomorrow I could be moved. Next day I am moved to a slightly larger room (12 sqm) but again inferior to what was booked. Last day I was expecting some sort of compensation when paying (the first night I paid almost 200€ for the tiny room!) but the answer at the reception was pathetic, the woman even resorted to lie and said they did not advertise any size for the rooms, which is absolutely false. Except the tiny one, the rest are advertised with, of course, different prices.

Writing a formal complaint later on did not trigger anything to convince me this was a terrible error or negligence. They seem to know what they do: rip you off.

When you are away for a city break what more could you want?
Clean rooms with good service. We stayed here for 4 nights, the rooms were serviced each day beds made etc. my husband told the staff that it was my birthday when away. They left a voucher for a drink in the hotel, a little bag if sweets and a refreshing drink for when we arrived.
My husband found it a little noisey on the first night (I slept through it!). But after that we slept well.

There isn't really anything else to say part from it was clean and adequate. We were out most of the time anyway. In prime location for restaurants and the Rembrantplain square.
We stayed in the other hampshire attached to this, it is more expensive and rooms are better, but we didn't come to Amsterdam to stay in our rooms, so decided to go for the cheaper side and save money, we made a good choice. We stayed in room 329.

This is a well located clean hotel with good size room and bathroom. Coffee making facilities in the room also reliable free wifi. Check in was quick and efficient as was the checkout. The only curious part was the bathroom door which was not lockable and also made of glass which had a large gap at the top and bottom and frosted glass in the middle. However I would have no problem recommending this hotel.

We stayed in August 2014. Booked well in advanced so paid just over £200 three nights for two adults with breakfast. We had booked a double room, but it was very small and not very clean, so asked to be moved. We then got a room with twin beds and was much cleaner. The carpet had a large stain on it and would of been more at home in an office as it was so hard. The bathroom could of been a little cleaner.
On the plus side the staff were helpful and pleasant, WIFI worked well, and the breakfast was nice.
The hotel it self is in a really good location and in easy walking distance of restaurants and bars .
But be prepared to pay up to 7.50 euro for a vodka etc. and larger from 2.50 euro for a very small larger.
Getting to the hotel from airport by train then tram is fairly straight forward. taxi from the train station to the hotel is about 15 euro.

We stayed in August 2014 for 4 days with a party of 4 in two rooms and paid a whopping 1200EUR for the stay

PROS:
- good location
- nice, modern rooms
- comfy bed

CONS
- Rooms were NOT CLEAN when we arrived, nor were they properly cleaned during our stay (toilet was brown underneath the water, water and toothpaste stains on the sink, someone's razor left in the shower, house keeping came at 3pm the earliest, not once were the rooms hoovered during a 4 day stay).
- In both rooms either the bedsidelight or soap dispenser in the bathroom were broken beyond being useful anymore and weren't fixed during the stay
- Breakfast costs from 18EUR EXTRA - this is just for bread, ham/cheese, cereal, jam, coffee and juice. eggs/bacon/croissants etc. cost from 2.50EUR extra per item!
- The concierge gave us deliberately wrong information about city tours, trying to promote a particular company and denying the existence of one we had originally asked about, as we had read about it in a guide and then recommended a 100EUR taxi ride over a 10EUR train ride as the best option for us to go on a day trip- what's the point of having a concierge then?!

CONCLUSION: The hotel is great because of its location and modern decor, but having a clean room should be normal no matter what price you pay. This place is expensive, but takes the piss! No value for money!

Room Tip: Rooms are all prone to be noisy because of the neighbourhood the place is in, but the double glazing...

The location is good and my room was quiet and comfortable with a very nice view of the Amstel river. It is a standard European hotel - OK buffet breakfast, OK room, OK shower, OK bar, OK in-room wifi (I didn't use the restaurant). Reasonable value for money.

The one negative was that it is dirty! The floor in my room was not cleaned over the 4 days I stayed there and the common hallways the same (e.g., a small pile of food wrappers was in the corridor near my room when I arrived, and still there when I left). Disappointing.
