“Clean with a comfy bed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

Firstly, the things this hotel lacked: a room guide, refrigerator, in-room WI-FI, WI-FI that worked in reception, double bed. The concierge was not there when we needed them. Our room also faced a nightclub, which created some street noise. In it's favour: great location and a large sized room with pleasant decor. We loved that the hotel sprawls over three buildings glued together (so we walked through in internal corridor that crossed what was once a laneway).

We chose this hotel because it was the best priced hotel in a central location away from the red light district. It was on the Rembrandt Square so very close to lots of restaurants and bars so a great location for food! We were able to catch the tram to further afield areas from the square as well as being within walking distance of most attractions in the city. The hotel was also easy to get to from the train station on a tram which we arrived at from the airport.

The room we had was not enormous but it didn't need to be as we were not spending too much time there. It was nicely decorated with a lovely picture of tulips lit up behind our bed. We did not have breakfast at the hotel or eat in the restaurants because most nights/mornings we were out and about in the city. The room however was comfortable and had enough storage and English news channels which was nice.

All in all, this was a very well priced, comfortable hotel with helpful reception staff when we wanted to know how to get somewhere as well as being in a great location to explore Amsterdam. Well recommended!

Room Tip: Our room had no view, and was above the smoking area, so had to keep the window closed. Ask for a ri...

I found this hotel to be very pleasant. I actually became quite attached to our little room by the end of our visit. I don't know what all the rooms were like but ours was very small. That being said it had a very comfortable layout and everything one would need though a small refrigerator wouldn't have gone astray. Small and unique, overall I'm glad we stayed here. The bathroom door was just a sheet or frosted glass so you could kind of see through it and it didn't really SHUT per say so no privacy here! The "queen bed" we started our honeymoon on was actually two twin beds pushed together with individual duvets. Not very conducive for cuddling but we made it work. Many times I lost a limb to the gap between the beds. Strange! Despite all this though I'd say that they were THE most comfortable beds we've ever slept in! (Definite top 5!) Staff was very friendly and you could rent bikes and Vespas right from the hotel. Convenient! And the location is superb. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this strange little spot. IMPORTANT AFTERTHOUGHT! There is no Wi-Fi in the rooms! A huge let down and inconvenience for tourists especially. You have to go down to the lobby to use the Wi-Fi there. This is one thing I would definitely suggest they get on changing immediately!

On a city break it's rare to find a central location AND a nice room without paying a fortune.

Eden hotel was lovely, we booked a standard room for a short break and it was modern, clean and very nice decor. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Location is very central and overlooking the Amstel Canal. It is also right near the Rembrandt Square which is lively and pretty.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for a trip to Amsterdam, it ticks all the boxes!

I booked the hotel on a flight-hotel deal which was good value for money and therefore think that rooms that are given in this sort of deal are not necessarily the best ones. I also chose the 3* hotel as accommodation was not a priority.

The Eden Hotel is located in the centre of Amsterdam and along one of the canals.
Its central location makes it at walking distance from most landmarks, and walking in Amsterdam is very pleasant as you follow the canals.

For example it takes 20mn to walk to the Central Station if you enjoy walking, otherwise it is a 10€ taxi ride.
It is only 4/5mn walk from the famous Flower Market and another further 5mn walk to the Dam which is the city’s central square.
There are a reasonable choice of cafes and restaurants in the streets nearby the hotel, but I suggest you walk to the Dam where you will find all sorts of restaurants, shops and entertainment in the nearby streets.

The reception staffs are overall friendly and helpful apart from the occasional unsmiling person, but this happens everywhere in this category of hotel.

There is a concierge desk where you can buy tickets for tours and museums. I recommend doing this as it saves you from queuing (unless you buy your tickets online).
We found though that there was not necessarily a perfect coordination between the information given at the reception desk and that given by the concierge, and we spent 5mn going from a counter to another one to sort out excursions payments!

For security reasons (which we were very happy about) we had to use our cards to use the lift but we found it a bit slow and only used the staircase as we were at a low level.
We also had to use our card to open the door accessing the staircase, and once more we felt very happy with this security arrangement.

The rooms were not huge but absolutely fine, we even had an additional bed added. It was a bit crammed but we still could circulate easily.
There was absolutely no view, except of the wall of the other part of the building, and there was no view of the sky either! This was acceptable as we booked a flight-hotel package and knew that we would be allocated this sort of room.
It was not an issue as we used our rooms for sleeping only; we didn’t spend any amount of time indoors during the day.

The bathroom shower flexible was old and twisted, which was very surprising as the bathroom was new and extremely clean.
We only realised the following morning that the flexible was twisted and was the cause of the low pressure of the water and I mentioned it straight away to the reception.

The flexible was immediately changed for a new one, but I was a bit surprised that none of the cleaning staffs realised the poor state of the flexible and didn't have it changed earlier on!

Overall the Eden Hotel does a good job for a weekend or a very short stay unless you are looking for excellent quality and want to treat yourself. I was there teenage girls and the room was not a priority.
As I wrote earlier it is a typical 3* hotel located in a big European city and there are a lot of bits and pieces that don’t work perfectly as it happens in any other 3* star hotel anywhere else, and make me say that the Eden Hotel is average.

Room Tip: You will not have a room with view in this hotel if you travel on a prepaid flight-hotel deal as we...

We had a very nice stay the staff especially Natascha the bar person were very friendly the room was small but comfortable and clean we tended to eat out where ever we happened to be at meal times, we were very satisfied, the only down side was the first night the curtain came partly off the rail and it took 2 days to fix it, it was too high for us to fix ourselves and then another day someone put a do not disturb sign on our door and so our room was not made up even though I had told them it was not us who had put it there. I would say there again and the central position is excellent

We stayed at this hotel in early may 2012 and despite a mixup where they cancelled our booking due to our late arrival we had an enjoyable stay. The room was small but comfortable, well heated. the hotel is conviently located, staff were friendly and helpfull and the breakfast was excellent.
