“Be- and live Conscious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

This Conscious Hotel lies just 1 min walk from the Concert Hall (Concertgebouw). It is clean, not many 'things' in the room, but still nice and warm/cozy and a good size. I had a room on the back with a view to a small garden, all the other houses around, a (childrens-?)school and a tenniscourt The room had 2 doors that could be opend but when raining and wind blowing there was no possibility to put the door in a "lock" possition so there still could come some fresh air in without it raining inside. The staff was really wonderful, helpful and kind. You can only have breakfast here (pay extra) and there aren't a lot of things to choose between, but it is enough and tastes nice :) Being a conscious hotel inspires me to be careful with what I throw away. There were no recyclingbins in the room (only one in the bathroom), but the housekeeping appreciates the guests to just sort out the garbage and put it on the table untill they come and clean. All in all a nice hotel and not expensive knowing it lies in the best (most "posh") part of Amsterdam (oud zuid).

We selected this hotel based on other TripAdvisor comments and it was right on. We appreciated the tip to use the bus directly from the airport. The only minor problem was that the hotel was down the block and not at the corner as we had assumed. 20 minutes of confusion faded quickly. The location along the 5 and 16 trams was great.

The concept of the two Conscious Hotels in Amsterdam is all about being conscientious about the environment, based on the fact that it's easy to be lean, mean and green. You'll live AND leave here inspired.

The desk in your room is completely made of recycled coffee cups and newspapers and the bathroom counter is made from recycled plastics - you'd have a hard time telling, and they don't detract from the minimalist-bordering-on-basic design. With a splash of green wall decal featuring a forest, you won't at any time think you're meditating in a clearing surrounded by pixies, but it makes the room very pleasant, not at all stark and bare (which it could be, if you're the glass-half-empty type). On the same note, the hallways can feel a bit dorm-like or motel-like, but it's fun to go up and down reading the witticisms on each door (so engaging!).

Unlike many European hotels, the room is extraordinarily spacious for two. The bathroom dimensions are more Continental, but you're not bumping about in there. It's of course climate controlled, but opening the windows overlooking a pretty garden bring in a nice breeze. Take time to read through the hotel booklets and learn about everything they've done to reduce the property's carbon footprint (solar panels, water collection, a huge recycling effort, using Amsterdam's only organic laundry service, recommendations of businesses that share their vision, and much, much more). Even better, the copy is charmed with wit, and I can't think of a warmer welcome to town.

Actually, I can. I landed very early, and got to the hotel at 8.30am. The receptionist apologized that she didn't have anyone check out yet from a full night, but promised me I will have something by noon, even though check-in was officially 2pm. She then offered to stow my bag, showed me the bathrooms, and invited me to have breakfast - for 13.50 euros, a large selection of organic and fresh produce that made the next three hours go by quickly, especially with free WiFi that allowed me to take care of some work. Every time I returned to the buffet bar, there were different breads and fresh eggs done differently. Instead of piling the counter with food left out, the cook regularly replenished the plates of cold cuts, cheeses, and breads and eggs as said so everything was always top-tasting. Did I mention homemade granola and super-fresh milk and yogurt? You had four hours to linger over breakfast if you wanted.

At 11am, the receptionist came into the breakfast area to let me know that the housekeeping supervisor was inspecting the room they had rushed up for me to make sure it was OK. At 11.20am, she invited me to check in. When was the last time you had service this excellent? If you can't remember, it's time for you to visit Amsterdam and book a room here. If you need a little something something, there's organic wine, snacks and candy, as well as a slew of eco-friendly amenities for sale at the reception. It's like a Whole Foods lite! All this - the pride over the breakfast bar, the initiative of the reception - it's emblematic of the superlative warmth and conviviality of the Dutch people. Welcome to Amsterdam, indeed!

There's a direct train from Amsterdam Centraal right outside the hotel, which comes very regularly, and is no more than 10 minutes to The Dam, the medieval heart of the city and everything else. You're just around the corner from the museums on one side, and Vondelpark, the city's Central Park, on the other. I much preferred staying in this area, rather than closer to the debauchery and tourists - it's peaceful, it's cheaper (Amsterdam hotels are notoriously expensive), and if you wanted to walk instead of taking the tram, it's not more than 15 minutes. In fact, I much preferred this - more to eat as you pass by lots of enticing bakeries, and you can breathe in every iota of the city's history, canal breezes, and experience almost getting run over by a bike hurtling towards you - possibly the ultimate Amsterdam experience.

This hotel is very centrally located and has good-sized rooms. The green theme is a little bit milked in this hotel and is not really carried out all the way. We had the impression it was more a buzz thing than an actual theme that management rigorously applies.
The bathroom could use some renovation. The bed was very comfortable. Reception staff was helpful.
Breakfast is overpriced, there are better and cheaper breakfast options available nearby, such as the Concertgebouw Café that is practically across the street and serves an excellent breakfast.

A fantastic quiet and central Hotel for eveyone who want to visit Amsterdam! Set your base just few meters from Museumplein, the area of the museum, the Hotel is nearly in front of the Concert Hall, easy to reach from the airport.
Rooms are very nice and large, clean and with a naturalistic furniture.
Personnel is friendly and helpful.

Just returned from a 3 night stay for the Amsterdam Marathon. The hotel was very nice and clean. Slightly out of the centre but the 16 tram(every 15 minutes) took you the 10 minute journey to Dam Square. There is also a bus that stops outside that takes you directly to the airport(20 minutes and 4 euros) The staff were fantastically helpful and friendly, going out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The rooms were clean and spacious. Beds slightly firm for my liking as were the pillows. The bathrooms only contained towels and liquid soap so none of the usual little packets of sewing kits, cotton buds and shoe polishing kits etc that you don t actually need, so you did feel you were doing your tiny bit towards saving the world. For anyone doing the marathon it's in a perfect location. 5 stops on the tram to the start and possible to walk it if you are feeling super energetic. Not sure Amsterdam is calling me back but if we went back for another marathon would definately stay at this hotel

We made a very right decision to stay in Conscious Hotel Museum Square. As you know, AMS hotels are quite expensive, we wanna choose a clean hotel in a nice neighbourhood with resonable price. Conscious Hotel is very clean ,with very comfy bed. And we are lucky to be upgrade to triple room, facing a kindergarten.
In addition, museum square is a wonderful neighbourhood, street is clean, quiet and all famous museums are nearby. There's 2 tram lines near the hotel. Supermarket "Albert Heijn" is right the corner.
