Well, I had a great time here...again.
This is the third time I've stayed in the Nova Hotel and it's the first one I thought of when I went on a solo trip this time.
This hotel is central to everything but not in the busiest street. It also has the advantage of being quite close to one of my favourite restaurants, the 'Kantijl and Tiger', for yummy Indonesian food.
When I arrived, I was immediately given my key and directed to the lift, which is tiny but very efficient. I had booked a comfort room and when I walked in........it was just lovely!
Twin beds pushed together with white sheets and a big wooden headboard. Three huge windows, looking down onto the street. Bathroom, fridge, table and chairs, TV. It was an enormous room and very comfortable.
Breakfast is a cold buffet of fruit, cereal, cheese, cold meats, rolls and toast.
I found the staff, as always, to be friendly and helpful.
I had asked for a smoking room and was given a non-smoking room but was promised a new one in the morning. They rang me before breakfast, to ask me did I want to move but by then I was attached to my room and couldn't imagine that they could give me a better one.
Altogether I would recommend this hotel, although I was tempted to write nothing and keep it as much of a secret as possible, so it isn't booked up next time I go.....:-)
I would say though, shop around online. There are very good deals to be had and go for the comfort rooms if you can.

  • Liked — Location, room, view onto the street.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Book a comfort room, they really are comfortable..

We arrived to check into this hotel and had to leave. The room we were shown to was dirty and smelled really bad. We were shown to a second room but unfortunately it was as bad if not worse. The receptionist was unpleasant and unfriendly and I would not recommend this hotel.

Sorry to say but this hotel was not a three star level, it smelled bad and got worse as you traveled beyond the lobby (a mix between mildew, marijuana and smoke) and our room had a leak of some sort that would flood our room floor every day. The rug on the floor had gotten moldy and created issues with breathing. On our last day they offered a new room, but that would mean carrying our luggage up and down these tiny little stairs to who knows where so we said no and just sucked it up another night. I would have thought they would offer to move our bags for us at the very least...
The breakfast was ok, a bunch of bread and cheese; we ended up going elsewhere to cut the carbs.
The staff was nice enough, but I felt this hotel was unclean, smelly and depressing. Search elsewhere...I will never stay there again...

I am just back from Amsterdam last Friday and I booked a "spacious comfort room" at the Nova hotel costing me 155 euro a night. The room was a large room with two big single beds put together, the bathroom was small but catered for a bath/shower. The room also had a t.v which had some dutch channels and english channels and you also had the option of paying 12.50 a night for a few film channels. The room also contained a fridge however the view from our window was terrible but I was on holiday and spent most of the time outside and not looking out my window so I didn't mind. The Nova hotel also has a safety deposit box for every room and it is downstairs and it is of no extra cost. There was no noise and the people at reception rang for a taxi. The breakfast was sufficent. There was toast and many types of bread, cheese, turkey, all hot drinks, juice, fruit salad and cereal. All around, the Nova hotel was worth the stay as it was 1 minute from Dam square and everything leads off from there. I hope this has been of some help.

  • Liked — It's close location to Dam sq,coffeeshops and shopping streets
  • Disliked — it had no option of food or snacks besides vending machines with chocolate
  • Tips/Secrets: — book the spacious comfort room for extra space

It was close to everywhere i wanted to go. All the main coffeeshops, all the museums, dam square, all the great shops, and right downtown. It was clean and i really enjoyed the buffet Continental Breakfast. It was quiet while i was there. Which was 2 nights. I felt very safe being that the only way in was to be buzzed in. I have just booked my 2nd trip to Amsterdam for my wife and me and we will be staying here again. This time for 6 nights.

  • Liked — I was at the back of the hotel which made it quiet. Also the toilets were cool.
  • Disliked — It had no coffeemaker or kettle for tea.
  • Tips/Secrets: — bring along a kettle.
