“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

The Nova Hotel is centrally located and has easy access to everything. As with many older buildings, there are some stairs to negotiate, but overall not bad.

Cons: We stayed in a triple room and it did have a strange smell. The fan in the room helped a bit, but it was a little unpleasant. It was a bit of a pain to hand in your key every time you have to leave the hotel. I'm not sure if this is standard in Amsterdam, but it was a little annoying. Breakfast was okay - super salty bacon, but had enough variety to satisfy most everyone.

Pros: Location, location, location. If you want to be centrally located without spending too much money, this hotel is perfect. It was clean, the triple room we stayed in was well appointed. The bathroom was very modern and had a huge shower. The front desk staff was very friendly and even though we had to hand in our key, they always remembered us when we returned. Wifi connection is free and worked really well.

I would stay here again just because of the location and cleanliness of the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back (away from the tram) are quieter. If you book through their website, you don'...

I stayed here in March 2009 with my partner and our friends. Our room was okay size wise, but there room was the smallest hotel room I have ever seen! They had no table or desk or anything and they had to sit their suitcase on the bed to move around. Plus their shower was blocked and kept backing up.
Our room was right next door and very big. The bathroom was okay and clean. Our bed sheets looked like they hadn't been changed from the last use but reception assured us they had but I turned them about myself to the part that looked clean.
Location is okay, few minutes walk from Dam Square.
A friend has stayed here recently and they were very impressed so is think it has been done up since we were there. It looks alot different on the photos I have seen on here also so the bathrooms have been renovated for sure.

Chose this hotel due to the location and cost. We had a triple room and it was huge, looked like it was newly decorated or refurbished. Plenty of space and we weren't falling over each other. The fridge in the room was fantastic, we were able to stock up on drinks and some food. The hotel itself is quite small and the lift is tiny but the location more than makes up for this. There is no air conditioning so we slept with the windows open, as our room was at the front of the hotel it was extremely noisy. I would definitely stay here, there were no issues that were too great that would make me say never again. 2 minute walk to Dam Square and a supermarket is at the corner of the street. I would recommend anyone to stay here as long as your expectations are realistic.

Spent a weekend at this hotel and can't say I was satisfied. Sure, it had a fair price, but it's definetely not a 3-star hotel. For starters, I was given a room that smelled bad (probably it used to be for smokers and the smell got into the carpets and furniture); bathroom was not modernized as the description / pictures showed; and finally - and worst of all - it took several flights of stairs to get to my room, some preety steep, which is definitely an issue if you're carrying a suitcase, like I was. The staff was very unfriendly and, at some point, I was sorry to think that the receptionist never learned to smile in his life. On the good side, breakfast was honest, with nice coffee, cold cuts and eggs; free wifi connection worked really well and they offered computers and printers in the lobby, which was helpful. Location was good, but you can definetely do better in terms of budget hotels in that area.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with minimal flights of stairs - avoid the first floor!

The location of this hotel is only surpassed by the friendliness of the staff. Front desk was more than helpful, bell and breakfast employees really did a great job! Not fancy, but a great place to stay!

Best value for money. I've stayed at Nova hotel twice - 2006 and 2009. Not expensive, light and clean rooms. The view from the window depends on the room side. It could be a view on the typical Amsterdam green street or a backyard of the hotel with colorful roofs. The hotel is located in the heart of the city, 5 min walk to the Dam square and 10 to the flowers market. I would recommend this hotel to a low budget travelers.

Great location, that is the great thing about Nova Hotel. My husband and I stay here for 4 nights and we have been allocated a very small room. The small bed (uncomfortable mattress) is placed under an alcove making it very difficult when you stand up from your bed, and reducing the size of the room. From the reception area, you walk up and down series of 2-3 steps and through 5 doors before reaching this small room. However the price paid is for a normal standard room !
