Everything was OK, just the internet connection was very slow that days.
The WLAN quality was super, so I guess it is the internet connection.

For the money I paid for a 2 night stay in this hotel I was very disappointed. There was no bar/ entertainment in the evening and no ice machine available. The room (a double) was extremely small and the bed almost on the floor. The staff were nice enough and the breakfast was ok but that was it.

Nova Hotel is almost perfectly located only a few minutes walk from Dam Square, ten minutes from Centraal railway station, and ten minutes in the other direction to Rembrandplein. The street is quite noisy during the day with a lot of traffic it wasn't bad at night. The room (including bathroom) was more modern than in similarly priced hotels, even more expensive ones, I've stayed in near this area. It's not luxury but it is clean, relatively spacious and has a comfortable bed.

The only problem I had was a minor one. The front door is locked. You need to ring it then get buzzed in by the receptionist. On one occasion it took several rings before he opened it as he was dealing with other guests at the time. But given that it was raining outside where i was at the door it was a bit annoying.

Wifi was excellent quality in the room. Plenty of power outlets for recharging, etc. The three members of staff I encountered at reception were neither friendly nor unfriendly, just businesslike.

I've now stayed in nine hotels in Amsterdam in the past decade and I'd probably now put Nova Hotel in the top two in terms of best overall combination of price*, room quality, and location.

* I paid just under 80 Euro per night.

I have stayed at this hotel twice. I am planning a Third trip to the wonderful city of Amsterdam and If at all possible, this is where I'll be staying.

The Hotel is situated in an ideal are for most needs, round the corner from Dam square and close to all that Amsterdam has to offer.

You can easily get to most well know attractions and the tram stop is right across the road.

Cafe's, bars and restaurants all but a stones throw away.

For the beer lover this is the only hotel without a bar that I would highly recommend due to proximity of the local Beer Temple.

A fabulous bar indeed.

The welcome is warm. The staff are attentive, polite and willing to help at all times.

The rooms are well kept, spacious and the bathroom facilities second to none.

It can be a bit pricey but booked well in advance it is more than value for money.

A really great place to stay.

My wife and I have stayed in Amsterdam on quite a few occasions. Last year we stayed in the lavish Hotel Amrath but this year we went slightly down on our budget and got a very reasonable deal at the Nova. We were definitely not disappointed. The location was superb, within 10 min walk of Central station. Very near to Dam square, but on a quiet section of road. Everything is within walking distance, including a great supermarket if you want to bring a few drinks and nibbles back to your room. The room itself, on the 3rd floor was spacious and very clean, with a large, modern bathroom. We were facing into the courtyard, so not much of a view, but very quiet and full of sunlight. Breakfast was very good, plenty of everything, although the coffee could have been better. This can be remedied by buying a super coffee from the reception area for 1 euro. All in all this was a highly reccommended budget buy.

My buddy and I stayed here in May '09. We arrived into the central station and walked down the Damrak to the Dam Square. Turned right, then left, and then a couple of blocks down to the right was the hotel hidden behind a bunch of trees. The entrance is down a few steps from the sidewalk. Once you get inside the lobby is a good size with a couple of lounge chairs and sofa. There was a separate room off the lobby which was the communal computer room. The reception desk is immediately to the left of the entrance. We were greeted by the receptionist and we checked in quite quickly and were off to our room.

Our room was on the top floor facing the street and it was hot up there. We arrived late in the afternoon and when we got up to our room it was hot! We opened the windows and went out to get some food and walk around and figured the room would cool down by then. It didn't. I headed downstairs to get a fan while my buddy took a shower (yes, there's no AC). Front desk showed us where they had some fans and said grab whatever we wanted. Yeah, there was no help, but we knew what to expect from a budget hotel in Europe. So got a desk fan and a floor fan and took them up the room in the elevator. The room was good size to be able to hold 2 twin beds on either side of the room a small desk and en-suite bathroom. The decor was outdated and the beds were not so good. The carpet was bit dirty. The windows were still a little cracked open at night to let the air circulate, but that only let in the noise from outside.

All in all the room gave the impression of a 2 star hotel. Since we only needed this place to sleep for a night, we were satisfied with the hotel, but we will probably look for another place next time.

We really
