“Very friendly and helpful staff and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2009

This hotel is a 2 star hotel the stairs are step but that is what you expect to have in amsterdam. Booked in was twin room and informed them i had booked a double with travel agents and when they checked it said twin on there form but they where more than helpful and changed us very very quickly. Helpful at giving you information about the area and city and where to go and places to eat. Breakfast was good. Only 2 min walk to Dam Square and great to get about. The room was small but what do you expect when it's 2 stars but had everything you need a safe, fridge, tv and bathroom. Will be back to this hotel very soon loved the staff and location.

This hotel is great value for the money. I had a single deluxe on the 2nd floor with a private balcony and a view of the canal / street leading to Dam Square. The room was small but it had everything including a bathroom. Things could have been a little cleaner but nothing was bad enough to complain about. Breakfast was very simple but good in the morning. Staff was very nice and helpfull with any questions. The stairs were not as bad as people make them sound. People complain about this place like they were expecting a 5* hotel when its not.
For the money I paid for 5 nights and the amenities that come with it this was a great deal. Not many hotels have a private bathroom, balcony, breakfast and great location for this price. Would recommend this hotel as it doesn't deserve some of the poor reviews from the past.

Yes, the stairs are steep. But what do you expect in a traditional canal side Amsterdam house? We had a lovely room on the 2nd floor with a canal view. Small, but with all facilities, including tea and coffee in the room and a good sized fridge, with none of the expensive mini bar features! We stayed 4 nights, so tea and coffee facilities were free, otherwise 6 euros. Location was perfoect to explore Amsterdam on foot or by canal and the city was beutiful, helped of course by perfect weather.

This hotel is fine for travellers who wish to explore the city, not hang out at the hotel. It is located a 10 minute walk from the centre of town and is a short walk to the Dam and Anne Frank's. The rooms are sufficient but small. They room was clean enough as was the washroom. They serve a basic breakfast of toast, tea and cereal. For those with mobility concerns this is not the hotel for you as there are about 50 steep stairs to climb just to get to the reception area. It is inconvenient but typical of the buildings in Amsterdam. The staff can be helpful and the restaurant just outside has great food. Definitely 'no frills' accomodation but will do for those that aren't too picky.

Hotel website was no good for booking the hotel, it does not take your payment, you have to pay in person at the hotel when you leave. But it is there to reserve a room. Remember that.

The hotel had pubic hairs on the toilet seat and fridge door! Not pleasant. The stairs are very steep and illegal in size and they last forever and there is no lift so take a small case.

The bed sheets were clean as was most of the room besides stray hairs from a previous visitor. The rooms are very boring and small and have not been decorated for decades.

The breakfast is just basic toast, coffee, tea, cereal, yogurts, fresh juice. There is a computer in this room for internet access which was good.

The hotel is right near Dam Square so location could not be better.

The staff were not very helpful or friendly.

You can smoke in non smoking rooms.

Overall I thought it would be a nightmare when I arrived, but I got used to the place, although I would not choosed to stay there again, I would look for an alternative. I guess thats what you expect from a 2 star.

We booked this hotel online through 'easytobook' as it is centrally located. We went for a deluxe double room at €150 a night initially and €110 thereafter; we only stayed one night of three booked and wouldn't have done that if we'd been able to find alternative accommodation sooner. A very steep flight of about 70 stairs leads to a pokey reception area. The room had a balcony and (just) a canal view but it was about 8 feet square and there was barely room to move. The wardrobe had two hangers, one broken with nails sticking out; the loo didn't flush properly and the tv remote was broken. We made comparisons with other hotels for prices and the Di-Ann is a major rip-off. I was happy to pay for the second night (unused) just to get out of there. Sheets and towels were at least clean, but prices were higher than nearby 3-star hotels and only very close behind the 4-star American Hotel. Raadhuisstraat is a miserable street and contains many similar hotels, so avoid them!
