“Comfortable hotel with good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2010

I stayed four nights at Radisson SAS at the end of December 2009. Overall, the hotel had comfortable rooms with a good location.

Pros:
1. Good location, off the Dam Square on a side street. It is an easy walk to most of the attractions, including the Anne Frank house and floating flower market. Since the lines to the Anne Frank house is always long, it is advisable to either order the timed tickets in advance or go about 45 minutes before closing when the lines are much shorter but guests would only have about 30 minutes to view the house since it closes generally around 7pm.

The museum area (Van Gogh and Rijks) may take about 30 minutes. The hotel is also about 10-15 minutes walk from Central Station (the main land and water transportation hub).
2. The room is considered large by European standards with a good-sized bathroom.
3. The room was clean and well maintained.
4. Wireless Internet is free in the room.

Cons:
1. There is no coffee machine but a pitcher that heats up water.
2. The hotel should be 3.75 stars by American standards instead of 5 stars, as it doesn't appear to have a spa or a well appointed lobby. The hotel lobby and rooms are due for a remodel.
3. The restaurant serves average food but guests can easily walk to the Damrak (one of the busiest streets) and surrounding streets for food. Just off the Damrak on a street leading back to the hotel (street on the right of NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky from Damrak), there is a pizza place to purchase a slice of good pizza for a quick bite.

As a trip, for transportation to/from the airport to the hotel, guests can use the Connexion shuttle service for less than $30 Euros roundtrip. Guests can purchase tickets from the Tourist office conveniently located at the airport.

I chose this hotel after having read many positive reviews. I stayed here for four days, and honestly I would come back, because the location is really perfect (very close to Dam square), staff is friendly and the rooms very clean. However, we didn't like the furniture in the rooms: definitely not a 5 star standard; it was a little old. Good the free internet wi-fi in the room (if you don't have your laptop, you'll have to pay 5 euros for 15 minutes in the lobbby!)

On the third day, at about 3 pm. we decided to take a nap, but suddendly heard some very loud noises coming from the ground floor: they started renovating the kitchen, and it was impossibile to sleep. However, the staff was very nice, and offered us another room, in the nearby building.

Choose this hotel if you want to be at walking distance from the station and Dam square, and you want a clean place in which to sleep with no surprises.

Prices inside are a little crazy: 25 euros for a breakfast is really crazy, as well as the prices in the minibar.

We arrived on 31st Dec and spent 3 nights in this Hotel. We were happy with most things- quick check in-great comfy bed, plenty of room, good size room, with everything you would need.
Adjustable heating- under floor bathroom heating, which was lovely.

Service was good- we did try the breakfast- special offer @ 40e for 2. Was good, but a bit overpriced- had better outside for less- was just covenient for New Years day.
The bar area is lovely- again good service. We had room service New Years Eve at about 1am- which was great and did not take too long. All in all was pleased with the hotel- the only downside was for us the location- as the nearest tram stop to go anywhere we wanted was a bit of a walk- was probably more noticeable as the weather was so cold. Would not be an issue in warmer times.

We spent a very nice weekend in Amsterdam and given the price we paid (good deal through Wikipedia) we were not expecting such luxury and comfort. Cannot comment on any of the restaurants as our package did not include breakfast so we used Amsterdam hotels. I would recommend this hotel for its central location (really near Dam square, red light district and many other attractions), very comfortable beds (i'm 1m95) and overall very nice and quiet rooms on top of a very good service.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2009

We stayed at this hotel over the Christmas period and I have to say the service I have received was excellent. Was always served with a smile. We stayed in a deluxe room and the size was great and it was very quiet. The staff also knew the special requirements we put in our booking and did every effort to meet them. We also were feeling unwell one morning and the staff came to the room and checked on us every 30 minutes to make sure we were completely comfortable and satisfied. I would truly recommend this hotel purely on their service and hospitality but this hotel has everything and is a very nice hotel inside and out. 5 stars.

Once you find it, relatively hidden in Amsterdam's maze of streets and canals, the Radisson is really a delight. The rooms are big and well designed; we got free wireless access, and the breakfast is a bountiful buffet. Getting both in the 'conference price' made the room rates quite reasonable. The neat architectural tricks the designers used to keep the facade and atmosphere of two centuries ago with all the conveniences of a modern hotel made me smile every time I discovered a new part of the facility (which has a tunnel under the street between the two 'wings'). The service personnel were exceptionally friendly, although not particularly experienced. English is the hotel's working language as few of the employees are Dutch. Given this diversity, the hotel appears very well managed and adept at moving customers through the lobby and helping them take advantage of the fantastic city -- all in walking distance.

As you can see from all my reviews, I stay in hotels very often. I have become more and more used to it and as a result, I know exactly what I want. My wife and I chose this hotel because of its great location. It's true, it's very well located. We didn't take any public transport once in the whole weekend....how nice! (we only took a train to get back to the airport). The staff is fantastic! They have a great understanding of what service means! The hotel Manger, that we met does a fantastic job! There is a great feel in this hotel. It's lively and warm. I would have given this hotel five stars if I hadn't tried that many hotels in the past). I am only keeping five stars for the "coups de coeurs"...my personal favourites. I recomend this hotel! Go for it, it's very nice.
