“Excellent hotel!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

We stayed here in December 2013!! My partner had us upgraded to a superior room which was beautiful when you walked in!! The view over the canal was breathtaking!! The room was excellent always spotless the maids were excellent. The facilities in the room were always replenished. We dined in the restaurant the first night and the food was beyond expectation and the staff in the restaurant and bar were very friendly. I would Return here with no hesitation I loved it.

We stayed here for two nights. When we arrived we paid to upgrade our room to their new building across the street. The room was very nice and clean, until 7 am in the morning and the construction next door jarred us awake with what sounded like major demolition. So, we had to pack up all our stuff again and move back to the main building. To be fair, the hotel staff was very accommodating and upgraded us to a junior sweet at the same rate and removed the fee for the one night that we initially upgraded, and the breakfast buffet was great along with the location being ideal, and the hotel staff was awesome. So, I will focus on the positive.

We were in Amsterdam to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. The hotel lobby was very nice and pleasant. We had a beautiful room facing the canal. The room was so spacious and comfortable. The manager had a nice welcome note in our room. The hotel breakfast was excellent. There were so many people having breakfast at the hotel every morning, but the service was fast. The wifi works great. The hotel is within walking distance to lots of attractions. We really liked the convenience of the location expecially for a night stroll out. The staff was very helpful on different requests and directions. We'll definitely stay there again on our next visit to Amsteram.

Great location in Central Amsterdam. Staff extremely helpful, especially the Concierge and Reception Stafff with whom I had most dealings. Rooms were clean and comfortable and buffet breakfast had a good selection of hot and cold foods.

Great location, food was excellent and so very clean everywhere. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Free wifi in the room which is something I do look for in a hotel as we download our newspapers daily. The reason for not giving this an excellent rating overall is that there was no mirror in the bedroom and although lovely mirrors in the bathroom there was no plug for straightener so hair is done blind!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

Stayed for 5 days, no huge complaints but it could be a lot better. First the positives, the location is OK, the lobby is very pleasant, everything is OK in a vanilla low expectation kind of a way.

But there are just so many small things that stop this being a great hotel. Half the rooms have windows that face inward to the closed lobby. Even on a beautiful day there is never a sense of outdoors in these rooms, if you are on a lower floor you have to keep your curtains closed once you've turned on your lights or alternatively put on a show for the lobby bar guests. You are blessed 24 hours a day with the trapped noise of the bar, the restaurant and all the comings and goings of the busy lobby.

The carpets aren't really clean in the hall ways, the walls of the restaurant have food on them, the iron in the room didn't work, the iron storage compartment still had drugs hidden it from previous guests, only one of the two business centre computers worked, the HD Sports channel worked, then stopped, then worked again, then stopped etc. The staff aren't particularly helpful or friendly.

There's nothing really wrong with this place but with the location, the architecture, the history of the site, all the basics already in place, it could be so much better if it was run more professionally with some attention to detail.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a real window instead of the Lobby View.

My wife and I had a 22 hour layover in Amsterdam while traveling back to Kenya from an intense trip in the US. We selected the Radisson Blu from options offered as a way to use points from our credit card. It was a great little break and a very nice hotel. The room we reserved was not available when we checked in so the staff offered us an upgrade to a "jr. suite" which was in a more historic section of the hotel and while it had all the amenities of the renovated rooms, it had retained its charm. No question about recommending this hotel, although I don't know what the retail cost per night would be.
