We are actually still at the hotel as we write this review (we leave in the morning). We were totally surprised by the quality of the property considering its central location in the old section of amsterdam. We expected a very small room in a fair building. However, the building is very modern (to American standards), the lobby large & open (as per photos on this site), multiple reception staff (very helpful). We are a family of 5 and took 2 rooms (a double and triple). We were upgraded for our double to a business class room (quite large with nice add ons like cappucino maker, robes, slippers, etc.), the triple was even larger (an executive room) with the same add ons). The kids were so happy (a bigger room than mom & dad!).
The location could not be better. Totally central to everything. We could walk to every location and site we wanted (and we did). The street is toally quiet (except for occasional cars and motor bikes, but the windows were sealed to minimze those sounds even on floor 2).
The only complaint was the price of the breakfast - we took a pass on that and just hit the local pastry shops for coffee and pastry in the AM's.
A must do is a bike tour of the city. We did the 10AM tour with orange bikes. Great time, great way to see the city and get some
excercise as well.
We selected places to eat based on location (quiet with nice views) as we traveled about the city. No dissapointments here. There are so many great little places, just stay away from the most crowded tourist trap areas if you can.
Best sites: Ann Frank's house, Van Gough, canal boat tour (do first thing to get your bearings), walk the Jordan and "9 streets), of course a walk in the Red Light - don't be shy! The Portugese Jewish Synagouge. Finally the various squares and the big central park (lovely).
This was our second trip here in 3 years, but first with the kids (18, 15, and 13), they loved it! It is part of a 3 city tour (London, Amsterdam, and Paris). See our review of London K+K George hotel as well.
