Our stay here was absolutely wonderful. I will not repeat the detail posted by other users but to say the slightly higher price is more than worth it for the inclusive drinks, excellent staff and great breakfast (french toast to die for!)

The staff could not do enough for us and were genuinely friendly, the room was very comfortable and the location excellent. We will be back.

We booked directly over the internet a room with canal view which cost extra and is definitely not a budget price hotel, however, if it fits your budget We can thoroughly recommend it. our room was No 106 on the 1st floor and was decorated stunningly with 3 opening double tall windows looking out onto the canal and main street. Lovely decor, very comfy bed (2 very wide singles pushed together) air con, tv with 2 free porn channels 69 +70 (spice up your weekend - the dutch are definitely not prudes) a superb double size Rain shower and a bath, haidryer etc, plus FREE whisky, conyac and vodka in cut glass decanters and a mini bar stocked with smoothies, coca Cola, beer and fruit juices. That was just the beginning, the staff are so helpful and will recommend eating out etc based upon their experiences. Once you get your bearings you will soon find that you are located in an excellent location whether walking(as we did) or getting buses, taxis or trams. Some of the best places we went were The Ice bar (expensive but worth it) Ranchos Argentinian steak house, Red light district - you will be amazed (just window shopping) Anyway back to the hotel, the breakfasts were great, choice of cooked scambled eggs, bacon and sausage plus fruit, cooked meats, various breads for toast, or your own personally cooked omelette. And in the Living a lovely fire to chill out to when you returned to your hotel each evening with a FREE bar where you just help yourself to beer, wine, spirits and snacks (if there is a bottle that is empty just ask the staff and they will replace it with a full bottle) Then there is the free internet also in the living, by the time you add all the free booze and internet time you soon realise that although it seems a bit expensive when you first book when you check out and your bill is just the same as when you first booked that this hotel is a real find and is actually a bargain.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone I know and will definitely stay here next time we visit Amsterdam.
I hope the other rooms in the hotel live up to room 106.
Personally we will ask for 106 when we go again.

Having stayed at the hotel in October 2005 with my wife when I knew I was returning on business with two colleagues of course I booked us into Banks Mansion.
I know by far the greater majority of reviews about the hotel on this site laud the welcome, the ambiance, "The Living" etc etc. The rare "negative" entry is only to be expected.
Having returned today from 2 nights there I am delighted to report that the standards I experienced in 2005 have in no way declined. The welcome on our arrival from the reception staff including "Sarah Trainee" was genuine. The recommendation for a restaurant that night was spot on. (We went to Gauchos just round the corner on the Amstel Straat.) The hotel rooms were excellent, spotlessly clean, breakfast delightful with a more than adequate choice and freshly cooked.
My two colleagues were equally impressed and each said they would return as of course would I, either with work or pleasure.
Just as an aside here is a restaurant recommendation. It's called "Sherpa" and as can be guessed by the name it is a Nepalese and Tibetan orientatedn restaurant. Located on Leidsedwarsstraat off Leidesplein if you want to try something different I would urge you to give it a go. Very reasonably priced the food is excellent.
To conclude ...well done Banks Mansion - your rating here is more than justified and if I return to Amsterdam I know where I shall be staying.

We booked via the hotel website based on trip advisor reviews and stayed 3 nights. We cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. Staff bend over backwards to make sure you have everything you desire (we were offered a choice of 3 seperate rooms with different views/layouts). We also arrived about 4 hours prior to check in time and were provided with a room immediately by the super friendly reception staff. The rooms had terrific canal views and noise was blocked out by double glazing. Rooms had a lovely art deco them and were a great size! The free movies and mini bar/snacks were an excellent touch and I highly recommend the breakfasts - dutch pancakes and the likes made to order. All the attractions are within an easy walking distance ie Heineken museum, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Dam Square, Red Light District etc. (although if going to central you might prefer to take a tram - which leave from the front door). The incredibly friendly staff made the stay even more pleasant. If you are going to Amsterdam you absolutely MUST stay here.
