Well...after everything else that has been written about Banks Mansion, I think all we can do is agree say you should stay here if in Amsterdam!
Banks Mansion lies in an extremely convenient location, just outside of the main shopping area and a minutes walk from the Flower Market. We walked from Central Station to the hotel when we arrived and it only took us 20 minutes (not walking particularly fast either) to get there. The hotel is virtually in a straight line from the station and could not have been easier to find. It was very easy to get back to the hotel from any direction in order to freshen up and grab a quick coffee during the day.
From arrival to departure, all members of staff were extremely courteous and wanting to make your stay as pleasant as possible. On our day of departure we had left our luggage at the hotel whilst we enjoyed our last few hours in the city. When we returned to collect them at the end of the day, we were welcomed to enjoy one last drink from the house bar and to relax before departing for the airport.
The rooms were of a first class quality and suprisingly big for European standards. As other reviewers have mentioned, everything is included in the price of the room, even the minibar in the room. What gave it that extra touch is that there were decanters in the room containing three different spirits to choose from and mixers in the fridge, rather than spirits in little plastic bottles!! Our room looked out onto the Herengracht canal and had windows that opened right up. Gave a lovely feel to the room.
The only thing about our room was the cold tap on the shower...it had a tendancy to turn itself off slowly, making the water extremely hot!
We would, without a doubt, stay at this hotel again. In fact, we are hoping to go back later this year and will be sure to contact the hotel for their availablilty and price.
If you want an all inclusive hotel room, in a great location, with attentive staff, attractive art deco features and a friendly atmosphere, then definately choose Banks Mansion.
