I stayed here as part of a young couple between 13/03/08 - 16/03/08 after seeing the reviews on Tripadvisor.
They had booked us under the wrong name but this was quickly rectified although it was funny seeing a handwritten note in the room saying "welcome back Mr & Mrs ..."
The hotel was like we expected, we had booked a deluxe room with canal view for a bit extra. The room was slightly on the small side but this is quite normal in European hotels.
The room was well stocked with cognac, vodka and brandy and the mini bar had some cans of beer, fruit juices, smoothies and water. There were also some complimentary apples which we didnt have a chance to eat! We had bought some drinks from the airport hence the big bottle of baileys on our table! Word of note, if you want the mini bar restocked, make sure you let the cleaners know you want your room cleaned/drinks restocked! we didn't get it restocked on the second day.
The beds were really comfy, I didn't notice the choice of pillows that other reviews had mentioned, maybe I missed that.
The air-conditioning worked fine, and we did have a nice view of our canal from our window. It was very quiet at night which was surprising but welcomed. We also had a flat screen TV which had English channels.
The bathroom was nice, which was also on the small side, again this is expected in European hotels. The rain-shower was amazing, although there was no bathtub. The complimentary slippers and massive white bathrobes were also a welcome addition.
The breakfast was nice, we went for one morning (closes by 10.30am) we got there about 10.20 and the toast had run out so its best to go earlier, the cook was nice and she made our eggs to our liking although she couldn't make the poached eggs I wanted!
The un-staffed bar downstairs was also nice with comfy seats and a fireplace, and with a range of alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and a coffee machine. There was also a variety of snacks which changed during the day. The free internet downstairs was also a welcome addition. Many of the people seemed to be business travelers, so we did feel a bit out of place as younger travelers!. The staff were very helpful with places to go and things to do in the locality. The nearest trams were 16/24 to get to central station but pretty much everything can be reached by walking too. The usual taxi service from the hotel to the airport was 48E so if your trying to budget it might be better to take the tram/train route.
Overall I would recommend this hotel, if your prepared to pay a little extra for luxury. I will definitely stay in this hotel again, and has provided us with many good memories of Amsterdam.
