Travelled to Amsterdam in mixed party of 8 and wanted a central and reasonable priced hotel. Found Victoria Park Plaza on internet and got a rate of 165 euro per night for double/twin room. Easy to find from airport, we jumped on a train for 4 euros and arrived at central station 20 mins later - the hotel is facing the station entrance.
On entering the hotel is looks very grand with marble floors and pretty decor. The check in was painless and we were quickly in the lift to our room. The room was ok, not the largest bathroom I have seen but it was fine for our stay. The shower had great power and had a fixed shower screen (no curtain). The bathroom did lack counter space.
The room itself had all the essentials :- tv, mini bar, plenty hangers, writing desk, dresser with large mirror, 5 drawers, internet connection
Breakfast wasn't included in our rate and we were never up early enough so can't comment.
We used the main hotel bar but it was small and full of large furniture that made it look smaller. We struggled to get our party of 8 round a table. The hotel also had a sports bar but it was never open when we were around - pity as it looked really nice and the blokes in our crowd would have liked to watch the footie.
Location is good, you can easily walk down to Leidesplein etc in 30 mins taking in all the culture and atmosphere.
The red light district is very close and worth a walk by at night.
Eating - we had breakfast at the Grasshopper pub which is round the corner from the hotel :- walk down Damrak and take first left, the Grasshopper looks onto Damrak and the canal. Good eggs and beer. Behind the hotel are plenty of side streets with lots of cafes, bakeries and Mcdonalds - you won't starve.
All in all we had a fab time and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is sight seeing and wants somewhere to crash at the end of the day. It is clean and friendly.
