Travelled to Amsterdam in mixed party of 8 and wanted a central and reasonable priced hotel. Found Victoria Park Plaza on internet and got a rate of 165 euro per night for double/twin room. Easy to find from airport, we jumped on a train for 4 euros and arrived at central station 20 mins later - the hotel is facing the station entrance.
On entering the hotel is looks very grand with marble floors and pretty decor. The check in was painless and we were quickly in the lift to our room. The room was ok, not the largest bathroom I have seen but it was fine for our stay. The shower had great power and had a fixed shower screen (no curtain). The bathroom did lack counter space.
The room itself had all the essentials :- tv, mini bar, plenty hangers, writing desk, dresser with large mirror, 5 drawers, internet connection
Breakfast wasn't included in our rate and we were never up early enough so can't comment.
We used the main hotel bar but it was small and full of large furniture that made it look smaller. We struggled to get our party of 8 round a table. The hotel also had a sports bar but it was never open when we were around - pity as it looked really nice and the blokes in our crowd would have liked to watch the footie.
Location is good, you can easily walk down to Leidesplein etc in 30 mins taking in all the culture and atmosphere.
The red light district is very close and worth a walk by at night.
Eating - we had breakfast at the Grasshopper pub which is round the corner from the hotel :- walk down Damrak and take first left, the Grasshopper looks onto Damrak and the canal. Good eggs and beer. Behind the hotel are plenty of side streets with lots of cafes, bakeries and Mcdonalds - you won't starve.
All in all we had a fab time and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is sight seeing and wants somewhere to crash at the end of the day. It is clean and friendly.

I have no major complaints, but after reading the predominantIy positive (and in some cases extremely positive) reviews, I have to admit: I was a bit disappointed.

I was referred to the hotel by a colleague in Holland who had informed me that the hotel was recently renovated, and was impressed by the work they did in the lobby and bar area. (He had never seen any of the guest rooms.) With the incredibly convenient location---right in central Amsterdam and across the street from the train station---with its reasonable rates, and with great reviews, it was an easy decision to make the Victoria home for my week-long business trip.

Indeed, the lobby, the bar, and the entire lobby level was very nice. But once I stepped out of the elevator, things went downhill fast. If the hallway was renovated, I couldn't tell. There was a bit of a stale smell, and the carpet was lumpy. The room was very small, just enough space for the bed, a small desk, dresser, and a small wardrobe. The bathroom was probably the smallest hotel bathroom I've ever seen in my life.

On the topic of the bathroom, there were a few annoyances:

-- No counterspace whatsoever. There was literally one inch of space on either side of the sink.

-- They don't provide washcloths.

-- The tiny shower stall had one of those light-weight curtains that get sucked into the stall when the water's on and cling onto you while you're showering.

While the rooms may possibly have been renovated (hard to tell for sure), it definitely did not feel like I was in a newly renovated or newly-decorated room. The room, the furnishings, and the carpeting were all kind of dark. Reminded me of an average Holiday Inn. Nothing modern; no LCD TV. In fairness, though, everything seemed clean and in good repair.

In summary, I would rate my overall experience as "average". If you're looking for basic accommodations at a great location, you may be very satisfied. But I would not consider this to be a four-star hotel, as they claim. My stay was reasonably comfortable---and not so bad that I felt compelled to pack my stuff and move out---but I will consider other options for my next trip.

I booked the Victoria Hotel, Park Plaza because I was staying in Amsterdam for work and the hotel's location is great, very close to central station (opposite), so most of the city is at hand. It also had a gym and due to travelling lots it was something I've been missing.

I booked for 2 nights though Hotels.nl for the 228 euros which was advertised as the 'hot deal' rate and for the location it's not unreasonable.... that is until you see the size of you room! Mine just about fitted the single bed and small wardobe in it.

I was supposed to be staying for 2 nights, but due to events at work I could only stay 1. I informed the hotel before checking in, but they said that as the room was pre-paid through the website they could not refund the money.

Upon seeing the room I (really) politely asked if I could have something just a tiny bit bigger seeing as though I had actually paid for 2 nights and this was by far the smallest hotel room I'd ever stayed in. I was told by a very snippy receptionist that I could upgrade for another 50 euros per night if I was unhappy.

I was really put out when I went down to the gym to find it was another twelve euros per hour to use - something not stated on hotels.nl

Food in the restaurant was okay at best, but having stayed in lots of hotels in Amsterdam recently, I'd say a little overpriced for what it was. Also the white wine I ordered came at room temperature. In hine-site I'd rather have eaten out.

Overall an expensive and below average experience.

10 out of 10 = top marks all round. Sorry, but just can't find anything to complain about! Extremely clean, bright and pleasant atmosphere everywhere in the building. All Reception Staff and Concierges were so happy and helpful, as were the other members of staff. Never without a smile and a "have a nice day". Room and all facilities were as good as you can get. Nice to get tea/coffee making facilities provided. That refurbishment work has now been completed. So just ignore all those moans from the past. Would return tomorrow, with pleasure. Do not hesitate to book it. Please note, that if you want the smaller, lighter, healthier breakfast, go along and down to the Brasserie (in the Conservatory), it's much cheaper and great value. People (including locals) were pouring in off the street - seperate entrance round the corner of the hotel.

Just to echo what most other reviewers are saying about the Victoria, we found the staff to be most polite and helpful and the hotel is conveniently located for the station and shopping areas. It's a bit of a walk to the museums but you can get a water taxi nearby.
Rooms are spacious and clean. Nice bar and restaurant. They offer some good deals and if it's value for money you're after then this hotel is well worth a try.
