We checked into the Victoria Hotel for a one night stay expecting a 4 Star experience. First off, the hotel is undergoing massive renovations, lots of it is currently under exterior sheeting while interior court rooms are covered in scaffolding, complete with construction racket. Those were the only non-smoking rooms available. We instead chose the Garden Terrace area, supposedly with the most up to date rooms. Ours was by no possible stretch of the imagination a 4 star room. Possibly a 2 star but that's being generous. The carpet hadn't been cleaned in years. The room was small and unattractive and the quite old bed/mattress had a sizable valley down the middle. The room was hot and airless even though the heat was off and we opened the window (letting in all the train station noise) and ran the fan. Internet service was an additional 20 Euros, as was the breakfast. We chose instead the smoke-scented cafe, only because it was blowing snow outside. O, and the concierge recommended a restaurant that we discovered had an attached sauna and absolutely wreaked stale bathsteam. Really avoid this place at all costs.

This older hotel by the train station has not been well-maintained, and my room in particular was disgustingly dirty, with human hair all over the floor, stains on the carpet, and a filthy bathroom that had to be cleaned again immediately upon my arrival. Also, the window was broken and would not shut properly, which would make it easy for someone to break into the room (a real danger in Amsterdam, particularly where this hotel is located). When I complained the hotel staff I was treated extremely rudely; in response to my complaint a porter told me that I should "just leave the hotel and stay somewhere else". To their credit, the management was more responsive and very apologetic for the condition of my room and the rude treatment by their staff. But that does not change the fact that my 1-night stay was awful; I would never stay here again and I would not recommend it to anyone. If you are looking for the convenience of this hotel's location across from the train station, be aware that this is a particularly seedy, dangerous area. In this case it is clear that this hotel's desirable location for travellers allows the hotel to get away with its shabby condition and service. If you want to me near the station but in a safer, better hotel, you should definitely pay a little more to stay at the Renaissance about 1 block away.

I booked the Hotel Victoria for my friends hen do for 17 girls to stay two nights in January.
Generally the hotel was good although when we arrived it was covered in scaffolding. However the hotel reception ensured that none of the executive rooms I had requested would overlook the scaffolding and even gave the bride a room upgrade to a suite.
The executive rooms were large and nicely decorated. The leisure facilties were good although the pool was rather small. We didn't have breakfast.
The location was ideal if you wanted to be "in the thick of it" but not the most picturesque area of amsterdam.
The only problem was that the Park Plaza website promised the cheapest rates but I later found them cheaper on easytobook online and they would not honour the rate, so I re-booked with easytobook.

As a regular business traveller, I am pleased to have stayed here. Great location from the Central Train Station. The rooms were clean, relatively spacious, and well-stocked. Dont pay for a premium view room, as most dont look at anything that spectacular (rooftops, alleyway, or scaffolding). The breakfast downstairs is great except the price. You pay 20 euros for a breakfast buffet. Multiple eateries just round the corner for much less. Staff was friendly and everyone spoke english as expected. There were 3 staff working the front desk everytime I went through the lobby. The room insulation must be adequate as I didnt hear my neigbors at all. If I stay in town again, I would stay here again. The concierge service has good tools to help you in your quest for food, tours, etc.
