“In the thick of major tourist action, but GREAT Location, Clean Rooms and Good Service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

In Amsterdam on holiday with the family (2 adults and 2 teenage girls); I booked a separate room for the kids. I had been to Amsterdam many times before and wanted to show everyone the sites. I knew this hotel was in the "thick" of everything...in probably the most extreme touristy part of the entire city of Amsterdam, BUT it's directly across the street from the Central Station. So, coming from Schipol on the train or going on a day trip from the Central Station, you can't beat the location. The rooms were nice. Updated enough but not 100% new. We were given the "inside" "quiet" rooms and that was probably a good thing, because again, this place is smack dab in the middle of it all; just a stones throw from the Central Station, The Red Light District and the top of Dam Straat. The bathroom was clean and up to date but like other European hotel bathrooms, it had a funky bathtub/shower that was very narrow. Water pressure was good and we were kept supplied with a plenty of little hotel shampoo's and soaps that smelled good. Free WiFi. Concierge was outstanding , particularly Dennis, who radiated enthusiasm and helpfulness. The place has an older wing (we stayed in) and a newer wing (we did not get to see that). Elevators were responsive but there was also a central, large stairway I purposely (I like to take the stairs) made use of several times going up or coming down from our 4th floor room. Bottom Line, even though there are nicer, more luxurious, more quaint hotels available close by I would stay here again; simply for the fact that you don't need to schlep your luggage far from Central Station if you take the train from the airport to the city center.

Room Tip: Go with an INSIDE room

Have stayed here twice now but never got round to reviewing it. Both stays have been absolutely fantastic, both times i have stayed in the Urban rooms which are modern, clean and well furnished. On our second visit, they upgraded us to a suite in one of the normal rooms, the suite was absolutely amazing with the bathroom and main room on one level and the bedroom up some small stairs. We did end up transferring back to the Urban room we had originally booked, but that was just for personal décor preference as neither room could be faulted.
Location is fantastic, opposite the station so right in the centre but not too noisy which is nice.
Staff cant do enough for you, food in the restaurant was outstanding, room service was excellent and quick - basically just a really enjoyable stay - both times!
Would highly recommend booking here.

Room Tip: Urban rooms are more modern, regular rooms are decorated in a more traditional comfortable way.

Be careful with potential added costs! My boyfriend and I arrived at the hotel under the impression everything had been paid for (I have previously stayed at the hotel with my mum at which point the city tax etc had been included in the bill) but were informed we must pay €75 as a fully refundable room deposit in case we damaged the room or used anything from the minibar. This was annoying as we were unprepared for it (the previous time I stayed here this was not necessary, I feel it was solely because they didn't trust us as we're in our early twenties) but we paid it and got on with the holiday after being told we would get the full amount back upon checking out. Jump to checking out at 6AM... Only now are we told that we will receive €55 instead of the full €75 - after a challenging few minutes of us asking why, and the lady saying they take a percentage, it was finally explained that this was the city tax. To cut a long story short, the unhelpful staff members superior came out and in the end apologised and refunded the full amount. Everything else was perfect but I would say if you're quite a young customer be careful they don't take advantage of you!

I have used this hotel on 4 separate visits, Superb Hotel on Service and reasonably comfortable rooms, not the cheapest but location is brilliant, right opposite Central Station. Food is good but a little pricey, maybe better to eat out as there are some superb restaurants, and many cafe do breakfast at half the price of the hotel. It has lots of atmosphere and staff are very friendly.

Overall, a great experience. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice rooms, especially on the new modern side and convenient. When I told them my wife was coming to join me the second day, they immediately told me they would move me from my little single room in the older side to a double in te modern building for the second night. Across from central station and steps away from everything.

2 minutes from train station and perfectly located for sightseeing Amsterdam, very handy to Dam Square. Our room was quite large by European standards. The free water bottles and Nespresso machine were appreciated. The Front office staff were extremely helpful and arranged a late checkout time for us. Will definitely stay at this Hotel when next visiting Amsterdam. Recommended.

This hotel is well situated one block from the central train station so we were able to take the express train from the airport. Since Amsterdam is relatively small, we were able to walk from the hotel to all the attractions we went to. It at the edge of the Red Light district if you’re interested in taking a stroll through there and convenient to the Anne Frank House, canals and restaurants.
