“Excellent location - friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

I didn't book the hotel via their own website however when I emailed to ask if it was possible to drop my bag off before check in opened they responded straightaway and in a very friendly manner. We were advised that when we get to Amsterdam that we were just to pop in and they would arrange to store our bags. Good start!
At check in the lady was extremely friendly, she offered an upgraded room at 10EURO per night extra, if we needed it now (9:30am) before check in opened (2:00pm). We declined and popped our bag in storage and headed off to explore Amsterdam. When we came back the key was waiting for us and there was no delay at all.
We were directed to Room 114 on the 1st floor. The room is actually between the ground and 1st floor at the front of the building. Yes, between the ground and 1st floor. The view from the room was good; right over at Central Station and the wind dial. Noise levels weren't actually that bad.
I was not impressed with the room servicing staff; no top up of coffee and tea supplies and didn't clean the cups (that is a trivial point nothing stopping me rinsing it at the sink); they also came at 5pm one night when we had returned and were preparing for dinner.
The review only gets 4 out 5 due to the stench; not just a smell, it was revolting. When coming along the long winding corridor to the set of stairs down to room 114 there is a slight smell. As soon as you open the door to the stairs leading to room 116, 115 and 114 the sulphurous smell hits you. It actually takes your breath away. I am not sure how else to describe it; ammonia maybe?! I did report it, but I am sure I am not the first.
We did not sample any of the food at the hotel so cannot comment on service/quality etc.
Pluses: I was impressed with the room and the service from the Concierge and Receptions staff, they were friendly and helpful. You cannot beat the location!
Negative: The stench!

Room Tip: Add any comments regarding bed size or room location to your booking, it is 'best endeavours'...

Stayed here on our wedding anniversary and couldn't have been more pleased. Coming from Amsterdam Centraal, we walked out the station and immediately faced our hotel. It is ideally situated and was walking distance to almost everywhere we went. We upgraded to an urban suite and were delighted with our room, beds were comfy and the room was modern and spacious. We didn't have breakfast or any meals and there were so many nice places to eat in Amsterdam we felt it would have been a waste staying in the hotel. Had a nice selection of toiletries and mini bar which was of course expensive. Staff were helpful and friendly and they have a nice selection of cocktails in the bar.

Room Tip: Urban side more modern

The hotel is at a great location for tourists, right opposite to the railway station.
The hotel has rooms at two sides: in the original building; and in a connected newer attached building. I have stayed at this hotel before in a room in the new building, and had a very good experience. This time I was given a room in the original part. I am afraid that the experience was not that good. Whilst the rooms have all the “hardware” to meet the requirements for a four star rating, the over-all composition came across as outdated and in need of a make-over. Example: the bathroom was clearly added later; there was no room in it; the toilet was literally positioned in the doorway.
All services and quality of staff however were at a good satisfactory level.

I stayed at this hotel for a short business trip (3 days). The hotel was very central and opposite the Central station which was perfect when traveling from the airport. The room was very spacious, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were extremely courteous and friendly. The breakfast was ideal as there was a large selection of foods to choose from. There is also free wifi in this hotel.

I've stayed in other hotels in Amsterdam and I'd definitely use here again. I read sone of the reviews that said the staff were not friendly. My experience was friendly helpful staff. There are 2 parts to the hotel. The older Victoria side with slightly dates rooms. On the other hand my room was huge, clean and everything in it I need.
The urban side, newer part has more modern rooms but it was smaller than my room.

The bar is lively in the evening. And as per other reviews the location is perfect. Opposite the central train station and beside all the canal tours.

We had a short family break in Amsterdam (3 Nights) and stayed at the Victoria Park Plaza which was ideal for us being central and right across from the central station, it,s the first central hotel you see as the train pulls in. We stayed in the urban rooms which were a good spec and very clean, and comfy bed , the bathroom was also very clean .We did not eat in the hotel but did use the lounge bar several times which had a good atmosphere and friendly bar staff.
The Hotel is very well placed for access to bars and resteraunts etc and Dam square and there are plenty of trams going around. The ticket office for booking trips etc is 50 yes up the Main Street as well.

Room Tip: Although our room looked out towards central station and the busy road, we did not have a problem wi...

We booked this hotel as we wanted to be in the centre and with a swimming pool for the kids. The concierge and reception staff were excellent. The restaurant was fine but the waiting staff were slow to respond to requests and the room wasn't serviced promptly (e.g. coffee resupplies). The swimming pool was unusually cold, which was disappointing.
