The rooms were nice, but in need of some definite sprucing up. Nice duvets and damask sheets and a comfortable bed. Good water pressure in the bath. Nice lobby and restaurant (Vic's). But, the furniture in the rooms is kind of old and stained, as are the walls. No extras are included with the room - contrary to the Park Place ads (even the ones on the walls in the hotel). If you want fresh linens you have to request them and house keeping does the bare minimum. Additional charges for Turkish bath and sauna were news to me when I got there, so I didn't indulge (disappointing). We definitely appreciated the non-smoking rooms as things are quite smokey all around Amsterdam, and it was nice to get a break at night. We found the service friendly at reception. The concierge was helpful, but one got us to agree to a service fee for a canal ride by playing like we just weren't communicating well in English... Keep in mind, there are few lines into anything in February - at least during the week. So, use the concierge to get the info, but take care of buying the tickets yourself. The Victoria is in a great location: near the train station where you can easily catch the tram, or in one direction is Red Light, another is more quaint with shops and residential, another is the National Monument, etc. I guess overall, I'd say, I wish we'd gotten more for our money. I know things are expensive in a city and it seems our money went for the room alone. But I love extra touches when I'm traveling like good housekeeping, turndown service, and really clean well-kept rooms - we did NOT get that at the Victoria, but we were not unhappy, just disappointed. We did like the location, and they did have the best winter deal on the room rates.
