My husband and I stayed here for business, and we moved into this hotel after staying a couple of nights in another, more upscale hotel in Amsterdam. My initial reaction was mixed. The public spaces--lobby, lounges, business center, hallways--are all very nice and upscale looking. The rooms are a couple of steps up from dorm rooms. The bed is a mattress on a frame, the furniture is utilitarian and banged up quite a bit at that, adequate lighting is lacking, and the carpet is industrial grade and rust in color, but the size of the room and the bathroom is rather large by European standards. (Pictures are attached.) I didn't think the room matched the presence of the public spaces.
That said, the porters and concierge are very nice and helpful and recommended a great restaurant for dinner. Tea and coffee are provided in the rooms and not just one caf and one decaf like in some places--but 4 teabags and 4 containers of coffee with more than enough sugar and cream. One person's job is to take care of this in each room (separate from the regular housekeeping). Also, one of the days we stayed here was my husband's birthday. He did not advertise this fact--but the front desk staff must have paid attention to it on his passport because they sent up a birthday card and a small box of chocolates to help him celebrate. I thought this was a very nice touch.
This hotel is directly across from the train station and within a reasonable walk of almost any site you'd like to see in Amsterdam. The brassiere has good food and friendly service. The Victoria is not a bad choice for 3 star accommodations.
