“Excellent place to stay in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2011

This is a amazing hotel in the center of Amsterdam. Clean, comfortable and the location is just fantastic. The only thing I would recommend is to have a map on you because it's located in an alley not easy to find the first time. Other than that, it's very close to a shopping mall, to tram stops and there are lots of nice places around. If you do not have too much luggage on you, just walk down Damrak from Centraal Station and it won't take you more than a 10 minute walk. I'm coming back to Amsterdam this february and have already booked them again.

Our room was quiet, clean, and no smaller than most reasonably priced rooms I've stayed at in Europe. The location allowed us to walk everywhere from the train station to the museums. Breakfast was included and consisted of bread, sliced meat, cheese, orange juice, grapefruit juice, milk, a few kinds of cereal, yogurt, coffee and tea. There is a nice brasserie across the street. The main negative point for me was that most of the places nearby for eating leaned towards fast food. A great location for shopping. And there is an Albert Heijn grocery store a couple of blocks away next to the Magna Plaza where there is a wide selection of cheese to try or buy.

when we first arrived it was very hard to find, we cruised around asking people but at the end we were happy with its location, very convenient location close to tram station, dam square, many shops and restaurants around,,this was what we wanted! a central location, we didn't care much about the room, bed was comfortable and toilet was clean.
we mainly wanted to discover amsterdam and we knew we would only go back to the hotel for sleeping. the breakfast didn't have much to offer it def needs improvement.
i don't think i would recommend this hotel to family and friends, but maybe for young people who just want to go and discover the city and not pay much to the hotel

We stayed for a weekend between trips to The Hague and Germany. The hotel was hard to find. It's in an alley behind a church on Dam Square, and there are no signs on the main streets to point you in the right direction. Once we found it, we had mixed feelings. The proximity to Dam Square, the main train station, and the tram lines was excellent. The location in the alley was a little weird since it's right across from a "coffeeshop" and there was always a steady stream of young people smoking pot in the street outside the shop. The hotel is in an old building, and the atmosphere inside is a little run down. We booked a room for two people weeks before the trip, but at check-in were told that a single room for one person was reserved. They were able to accomodate us and give us a room for two, but it was irritating. We booked, confirmed and re-confirmed but it was still wrong. The room was tiny with 2 twins smushed together. The only window was mounted near the ceiling and we had to use a stick with a hook to open or close it. The bathroom was half the size of my closet at home. There was a shower, but it was so tiny you could hardly turn around in it. I'll be honest. Our first impression was that it was a dump. On closer inspection, however, the room was indeed clean and the mattresses were incredibly comfortable. After the initial shock wore off, we were determined to make the best of it, especially since it was only for 3 nights. If you're looking for a certain level of European charm or space, this is not the hotel for you. But if you're looking for a clean room with comfortable bed near Dam Square and you aren't turned off by something on the lines of a private hostel room, you'll be happy here. The staff was friendly and helpful, and for that we were thankful. I can't say that I'd recommend this hotel to friends or family, but I would recommend it to young people looking to stay near Dam Square and the train station who don't plan to spend much time in their room and aren't hung up on luxury or amenities.

We spent 3 nights there and have no complaints. The staff was very helpful. Good breakfast. The Airport shuttle bus drops you off at the end of the alley. The pick up point is at Van Cleef hotel. Very convenient location near Dam Square. Short walk from Central Station.

The rooms are somewhat small but comfortable. Entire hotel is non-smoking.

location close to Amsterdam Centraal Station ( Main Train Station )
only minutes to walk, close to city center of Amsterdam, shopping and night life
on the corner of the red-light district and amusement quartier

the hotel has been renovated recently after it got acquired by the Golden Tulip
Hotel Group - still it remains a basic hotel with average standard
the rooms are quite small, rooms located towards the street are VERY noisy

okay for a night over in Amsterdam - especially due to location

I have just returned from a 3 night stay in this hotel & found it to be in an ideal, quiet location off Dam Square.Staff were friendly, polite & helpful at all times.I stayed in rm 228 which overlooks the lane at the front of the hotel.Windows are only single glazed so there are associated sounds from the lane but no traffic passes through.I believe rooms to the rear of the hotel are quieter. My rm was serviced everyday of my stay.It was a good size with plenty of rm to comfortably move around ,there was a hanging wardrobe, safe, en suite shower rm,very comfy bed & radiator. There is a lift to all floors, breakfast was continental,3 types of cereal, fruit, toast, yoghurt, rolls, meats & cheese, tea coffee & fruit juice. All in all a very enjoyable stay, would definately stay again & wouldn't hesitate to recommend to family & friends.Ps.I consider myself to have high standards!!
