“perfect city break without blowing the budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2014

Its true that the bedrooms décor could do with a fresh coat of paint and new carpets but apart from that we cannot fault this hotel. It is perfectly located, right near Dam square, the rooms are very clean and comfortable, breakfast is a typical continental one but plenty of it but the thing that makes this hotel special was the staff, helpful, friendly and welcoming. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a three staff hotel

The Dam Square Inn is very close to the Central Railway Station being a 10 minute walk. Very helpful when arriving in a strange city and not knowing all the bus and tram routes yet. It is very walkable to many Amsterdam attractions, including Anne Frank's house. We only needed the trams to get to the Museum area and that was easy being just behind the hotel. The hotel is very comfortable and offer an excellent standard of continental breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful with all requests we had too. We were on the top floor at the front of the hotel and didn't find it noisy at all, although our stay was midweek! Lots of little cafes and bars close by too.

stayed only 1 night at the end of a European trip. It was purely chosen for the location close to the train station (5 minutes walk) and the attractions to be visited. The hotel is basic but for its location reasonably priced. The room was overlooking a side street so was nice and quiet. The staff at reception were friendly, efficient and helpful when asking for directions. Breakfast was cold meats and cheese along with various breads. No hot food was available. All in all for an overnight stay it fitted the bill.

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel, the first time was twenty years ago. The hotel is clean and basic, rooms are large and beds comfortable.
Breakfast is continental. The location is great, right next to dam Square off the Damrak within easy walking distance of the attractions with the exception of the Rijksmuseum where the number 5 tram from the street next to the hotel fits the bill.
The frontage of the hotel is a gin distillery preserved but the actual hotel is probably 1960's

Room Tip: Towards the back to avoid street noise at night

We stayed there for four nights and the room was on the first floor just above a coffee shop which apparantly was open 24/7 since people were very loud all night, sitting smoking outside.
You dont need a taxi to get there from central station, just walk straight till you see KFC and turn right before it, the hotel is 300 m up two tiny streets:)
The room was very spacious and I liked the hotel shampoo for the first time in my life.
The breakfast was very modest, I'd say but wont leave your stomach empty.
To the right from the hotel next to a big shopping centre is the food supermarket with delicious ready made salads, fruits and vegs.
The hotel is very central and you walk to all sights within 15 min.
A walk to Nemo science centre took us 20 min and it is a real pleasure for kids! You can spend the whole day there!
Anyway, enjoy Amsterdam and ask for less noisy rooms! Adios!

We found this hotel to be in the perfect place. It was close enough to everything. The staff were friendly even made us hot chocolate when we entered the hotel several times. The rooms were warm ebough for the cold weather and very clean. The beds were comfortable.

I if come back to Amsterdam i want to stay here again.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front would be more noisey. We were in a triple so it was at the top and quiet.

This hotel is on a small street just off the Dam. If you have a good map and better sense than me, you can walk from the train station pulling your luggage along the main road and getting a little intro to Amsterdam. When you arrive, you will experience some of the best service at any hotel. You will have a comfortable bed, good WiFi, and a great breakfast when you wake up. If Netherlands wins their world cup game, you will hear celebrating, but not enough to keep you up. The local shopping is terrific and trams to just about anywhere are within walking distance. I won't stay anywhere else when I return.
