“Ideal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

Ideally situated to explore the attractions of central Amsterdam. Ten minutes walk from centraal station and on the route of the trams it's easy to get about. We prefer to walk most places so that we get to see the city and we were able to walk to Ann Franks house in about half an hour and a little bit longer to Van Goghs museum. Dam Square was probably 10-15 minutes away. The hotel has a nice big reception and foyer and the staff were as nice and as helpful as you could possibly ask for. The only negative thing I can say is that the room, and particularly the bathroom, we're showing a bit of wear, but nothing that was really a problem. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting somewhere with easy access to central Amsterdam and at a reasonable price.

We had not booked this Hotel but were moved here by the Arthur Frommer had rain ingress in their rooms so could not be used.
We only recieved that news on trying to book in the AF, so were a little shocked especially as I spend a lot of time reviewing location and hotel - we prefer a smaller hotel ina quiet area, but what could we do!
Upon arrival at the Convent we received a wonderful reception with lots of information about the local area and Amsterdam in general.
Our room was large - a king size bed, armchair, Tv tea/coffe mini bar, and a full bath / shower over.
I note others have commented on the decor and the fact the hotel is getting a makeover so lets just say it was totally fine for the 2 nights we were there, clean quiet and comfortable.
I was at first concerned as was told it was near Dam Sq - NOT our type of holiday, but in fact its on the street behind so it was fine. There are trams and buses on the street but as Amsterdam is so easy to walk thats what we did.
The llocation is good for just about everything - just 10 mins to Central station. For us the best part was the closeness to the canal ring and Jordaan. Across the road and down 2 alleys brought us onto Singel and a stones throw to Greenwoods. Perfect. Across the canals and into the small streets full of bars and restaurants which are so very different from much of Amsterdam.

Room Tip: many of the rooms have windows to an interbnal atrium

This hotel is not great. Although it was near city center, the hotel itself was in desperate need of renovation. Our room was overall a bit outdated and in need of updating. The bathroom was terrible - sink had many cracks and discoloration.
We would not recommend this hotel to future travelers.

We paid for a superior room, with wood beam ceiling, but unfortunately the lighting system (quickly repaired) and shower/bath (unable to be repaired) did not work. Reception staff were quick to change our room to one of more modern rooms, which wasn't really what we wanted. The hotel facilities are very basic and public space small to medium sizes. WiFi was poor. Very good location, near to main train station and other tourist sights. If we wasn't for the location and the staff, it would be an average hotel, not really MGallery Collection.

I rate this hotel as excellent due to the location - in the downtown. Clean and nice rooms, even though the hotel has an old history.
We didn't use restaurant, so can not estimate the quality and assortment.
The staff was very friendly. The lady from reception (Anjai - if I remember correct) helped me a lot with the return of the rented bikes to the Yellow Bike office, because we left Amsterdam and Yellow Bike office was closed. I am so thankful for that!
WiFi was free at the hotel with good speed.
I advise visitors to attend sauna - clean and hot!

I stayed here for 2 nights and thought it was a great central location in Amsterdam, not far from Central Station and easy to reach Dam Square and the museums. One of the main tram lines runs down the street so it's easy to get further afield if desired. The hotel is reasonable enough and perfectly comfortable but could do with a bit of a polish, it's got everything it should but it's missing something to make it shine. The décor is perhaps a little traditional for my taste but I'm sure some people would like it. The AC in the rooms is not very good and it was really hot at night. The pillows were huge but even 1 was too big to sleep comfortably and I woke with a sore neck. The staff were all very good, breakfast was good. I'd possibly stay here again for the location but would consider other hotels first.

Lovely hotel in Amsterdam center. Close to a large variety must see attractions. Tons of shopping, central train station, museums and the must visit Royal Palace. Convenient to tram lines, underground and the central train station.

Room Tip: Purchase a walking tour through Amsterdam Tourism office on line. We did and had a great experience.
