“Convenient and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

Stayed here as a couple for one night and enjoyed it. The check in was professional, informative and friendly. Our room had a king size bed which was comfortable although the bathroom was in need of updating. We received chocolates and champagne which was a lovely touch and a voucher for a complimentary drink at the bar. Breakfast was varied with enough to satisfy anyone and as we were not leaving until late in the evening we relaxed in the bar which is extremely comfortable. Being in a good location for everything made our stay even better.

I've stayed in this hotel many times when it was previously the Sofitel. For the past few years I've stayed in other Accor hotels in the Netherlands but decided to try this one again now it's an MGallery.

Firstly the location. Well you can't get much better it's fantastic if you want to be in the city centre. I drove here from the UK and although there's no specific hotel parking you get a decent discount at the nearby QPark.

Friendly staff throughout the hotel and it is clean. However there is no disguising the fact this hotel has not changed in years. All the decor and fixtures & fittings are getting really tired now and although some of the charm of this hotel (and therefore it's MGallery branding) is that it's quaint, there would be ways of modernising this place whilst retaining it's charm.

Beds were Sofitel MyBeds and therefore extremely comfortable. The rooms are fine but nothing to write home about. Personally there are nicer hotels such as the NH hotels in the centre, but if you want something a bit different and charming the Convent is ok. Probably wouldn't rate it 4* myself but that's a personal opinion.

As is mentioned in other reviews, the loading dock and surrounding area is very noisy of a morning.

All in all quite an average hotel but would use it again.

Great hotel, nice situation in Amsterdam. Not cheap but worth the money. Close to central station and the rest of tourist attractions in Amsterdam.
Medium size rooms, not noisy and nice employees. We forgot mobile charger and they kindly borrow one to us.

The location of this hotel is right in the heart of Amsterdam only a short walk from Centraal Station and all the major sights and attractions, yet a sanctuary once you are inside if you wish to get away from it all.

The staff are exceptionally well trained, friendly and helpful. On check-in i was also "welcomed back" - I know the system let's them know i have stayed before, however it was delivered with sincerity. I also recieved a personal note and gift in my room, which is a nice touch.

The room was large, although i was lucky enough to be upgraded on arrival to a Luxury room and would certainly recommend a "splurge" if anyone is planning a special trip. However, there was a limited view as the room mainly looked onto the building next door - this wasn't a problem as it was dark when arrived and still dark when i left in the morning. The windows are well sound-proofed and i didn't hear any noise from the main street so i could sleep soundly in the very comfortable king sized bed.

It was an early start in the morning to catch a flight but felt refreshed after my shower with Rituals products and a quick Nespresso...

This hotel had its pros and cons. The staff was extremely friendly, and offered a brochure on Amsterdam excursions at check in, as well as a map of the city. The lobby as well as the bar were very pretty.

Upon arriving to our room, I was very happy to see a big fluffy king size bed in our room. The bathroom looked clean and the shower was big. The location was also great. Unfortunately for me, the cons out weigh the pros.

To start off, the bed was two beds pushed together to make a big one. I'm not picky, and this would have been fine, but they try to fix the ridge by placing a mattress topper over the entire bed. It's a nice effort, but the topper is extremely thick in the middle and thin on the edges, so the entire night you feel like you're going to roll off the bed. The bed below the topper is hard and we could feel the coils, so there was no sleeping without the topper. Even trying to spread the topper out more did nothing to placate the situation.

Another issue I had was the paper thin walls. I could hear the people above me doing "couple things" for about and hour, and they were not even being loud. I felt like I was in the room with them, which was awful.

My last complaint is that the tv cost nine euro a day to use. I'm sorry, but being the classy hotel that they are should mean free tv. I know most will read this and ask why I need tv when I'm in Amsterdam, but we can't stay out all night every night. Being able to relax in the hotel room and watch BBC is just what I need after a long day of exploring.
