“Fabulous Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Friendly service from the moment you walk in the door. Short walking distance to amost attractions and afterall, Amsterdam is a walking city. Even though hotel is on a main road there was no noise to be heard. The hotel has 'ye olde worldy' character to it with the decor and corridors. The bathroom was slightly smaller than preferred but the room was a decent size for 2 people. I think it would have been slightly cramped for the planned 3 people to stay. All in all I would recommend this hotel for a city break.

This was our second time staying here. It is 4 years since our last visit and the age of this hotel is starting to show. The rooms are ok but the airconditioning was not working properly and despite daily visits to reception inquiring if the problem could be fixed nothing was done.
The public areas are still impressive as is the building itself but the rooms and particularly the bathrooms needs some refurbishment. If this was done I would return as the location is excellent.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel the week before Christmas. We got lost coming in from the airport, and were cold, wet and miserable when we finally arrived. All of that dissipated the moment we stepped into The Convent.

The hotel is warm and inviting an the staff is friendly, courteous and helpful. The rooms aren't grand, and could use some updating (the beds weren't too comfortable), but overall it was a pleasant stay. We had drinks in the bar every night before bed, but didn't eat at the restaurant. There are plenty of places nearby, and the hotel selection was pretty thin.

The best thing about this place is the location. It's close to Centraal (literally 10 minute walk, if that) and on several tram lines. It's also on the edge of De Wallen - if you're interested in checking it out - and major shopping.

I was expecting an old convent with all the charm, but it was a bit cheap, no charm at all, very dispointed as you realy don't won't to spend time into the lobby, or the restaurant. Nevertheless the rooms are nice and the service is good. I will not go back there.

Superb location and very helpful staff. I will go back again soon. The hotel is next to DAM square and you can ride the tramway just infont of the entrance.
The breakfast rate is higher than expected.

The Convent Hotel is nicely located, a 5 minute walk to the Centraal Station. As first time visitors to Amsterdam, this meant an easy walk to the hotel after arriving at the station as well as a brisk walk back on an early, cold and dark Sunday morning when the tram wasn't running. Most other tourist attractions are also easily walkable. Our room was comfortable with none of the "shabby" descriptions in other reviews on view. Good wi-fi and comfortable king sized bed are pluses, a typical high sided, slippery European tub a negative. Our rate included the buffet breakfast, which had everything one could want in either hot or cold offerings. We had a room facing the main street but double glazed windows meant no exterior noise. Once we reminded the front desk of our Accor Platinum status, champagne, chocolates and a decorative candle were delivered. Front desk staff were helpful, including selling us tram passes which is the way to go in this city. If we come back we will probably stay here again.

Booked the room through an Accor half price special offer, so was excellent value for money. Great location, no need to take public transport as we could walk everywhere within about 20 minutes. As many people have said the decor is woefully outdated, verging on the shabby (without the chic!). However, how much time are you going to spend in your hotel room in beautiful Amsterdam? Lovely Rituals toiletries were a bonus.

We had the 9(?)euro continental breakfast which was OK, somewhat overpriced but very convenient. Staff friendly and helpful .

As long as you aren't a total design snob, the hotel is definitely worth considering especially if you can get it at a good rate
