“Wow. What a great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Wonderful Hotel, everything was first class, Room, restaurant, staff, modern and clean and very impressive. Views over the canal and bike and walking tracks right there. Loved it. A great introduction to our European Holiday of a lifetime.

All in the hotel is wonderful. The location could be a little far of downtown. The top floor restaurant is very good altough it is "nouvelle cuisine". In a few words a "Great hotel hotel in Amsterdam"(Holland)

Great hotel, was a bit of a walk to the city centre, bike hire came in at 20 euro a day and they no longer do a river taxi from the hotel. During my visit it was their holiday period so some of the facilities were not on offer including all the shops, one restaurant on the top floor and the lobby bar as well as some spa facilities which were being refurbished. The main restaurant was too expensive for us and the French one was expensive but well worth it! Despite all of these things it was still an amazing stay just make sure you have 1,000 euros plus if you intend to eat there the whole stay.

Recently visited this great hotel on a business trip. As the name suggests, Hotel Okura is a Japanese hotel and therefore the food (not so much the decor) has a Japanese theme, which is no bad thing!
As we were at a conference, most meals were buffet style, and I have to say the food was delicious. Lots of different types and styles of fish, meats, salads and some pasta dishes for those who need carbs. The desserts were really good, although did require some strenuous after conference activity to prevent some unwanted weight gain.
Rooms were nice and clean, with a Nespresso coffee machine for a caffeine kick. Some annoying things, use of the swimming pool and gym costs extra which is an annoyance. Paying for the spa I can understand, but for the gym and pool? Other than that small gripe, it is a super hotel.

Room Tip: The hotel is 23 floors high with commanding views over the city. Try to get a room as high up as p...

Our room, though not enormous, had a fantastic view over Amsterdam. it was modern and the bathroom was particularly comfortable. It was not located in the centre, but this was not a problem as the public transport is so efficient. We made use of the car-park which was a particular bonus.

We had a light lunch in the restaurant on the ground floor which was well-prepared. If we had been earlier there were some very interesting options. The wine, by the glass, was very good.

We ate in the Ciel Bleu and it was brilliant. The restaurant has panoramic views across Amsterdam. The tasting menu offered a series of delicious tasters which were well balanced.

It was of course not cheap, but well worth the price for a special meal.

Stayed here a few weeks ago for a business conference with some 300 colleagues. Many hotels that offer conference facilities seem surprised by everyone arriving for coffee or lunch at the same time, but not the Okura! They coped amazingly well, and the staff managed busy periods with a friendly but efficient manner.

The food was amazing at every meal - not an easy feat for that kind of buffet. Loads of choice, all very fresh and high quality, and decent wines with dinner too. Occasionally the wait staff were a little too efficient - whisking away plates when I still had the last mouthful poised on my fork, but other than that, a great experience. My only suggestion would be larger coffee cups and hotter water for tea! Mid morning cakes were great too! The only letdown was the Waygu beef burgers one evening - completely raw for my taste which was a shame.

The rooms are good too. Big enough with a great bathroom (glassed walled into the bedroom but with a blind). I loved the fact that with a speaker in the bathroom you could lie in the bath watching TV!

The conference facilities were OK too, if fairly standard. I just wish the temperature could have been keep consistent at the right level - it was either too hot or too cold and adjusted to extremes too frequently.

Finally, the hotel is in a good location. Shops and bars / restaurants in easy walking distance. Within the hotel, the 2 bars are good (especially the 23rd floor) if expensive. I didn't try the gym or pool as at 15 E per visit I thought it too expensive for the quick visit I could have fitted in - fine if I had had a half day! For conference guests who will only be taking a quick dip, perhaps this could be included for free (or a reduced rate?).

All in all, would definitely recommend this hotel, and will be back if Amsterdam calls again!

Room Tip: Canal / city view rooms are good - and the higher the better (although lift waiting times can be int...

We had a train that was just out front of the hotel. The rooms are pretty big and full of high tech gadgetry. We had electric curtains that would close and open at a touch of a button on our night stand. The bathroom was pretty amazing just don't forget to close the window or you'll be using the facilities with all of Amsterdam. We had access to the executive lounge and we were able to have snacks, adult beverages and access to a coffee machine. Super convenient was the complementary nespresso machine in our room. The bed was comfy and the room always cleaned.
