“Lovely hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

We spent two nights in the Okura having luckily got an upgrade to a Junior Suite. Prices for the Okura deviate a lot between websites so shop around. The hotel is designed and located for primarily Business clients but is also a very nice place to stay for couples. The location is good with ready access by tram in and out of the city centre and only a very short walk to Albert Cuypmarkt. The De Pijp area is a nice contrast to downtown plus the late opening shop across the road is very handy especially if you don't want to pay €9 for a bottle of Heineken from the minibar. Overall, a lovely hotel - Request a room high up so you can get some views. We were on 10th floor and the view was amazing through two huge windows that the sun came through in the morning. The room itself was superb. Big bath, separate large rain shower, turndown in the evening etc, nespresso machine, all what you would expect in a five-star hotel. Highly recommend.

This hotel was excellent and we would recommend it highly if you are planning a trip to Amsterdam.
On arrival to the hotel we were greeted by very pleasant staff – from the door man, the concierge to the reception staff all were welcoming and professional.
Our room was fantastic. We could not have asked for anything else. It was modern, clean, spacious and comfortable. Any need or requirement you could want was taken care off. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was a pillow menu to select from. The bathroom was clean and provided everything you could possibly require. It was quite a novelty to watch television while soaking in the tub - although, there is a blind for privacy when you require it. The view from the room was good – we looked over a canal and a typical Dutch residential area. NB. The water in the mini bar is expensive so I recommend you by this outside.
We had breakfast included – the breakfast was fine but we would not have paid 30 Euros each for it! It was really not special enough to warrant this price. True - it satisfied our needs but I have experience much better selections and quality in 3 star hotels. If breakfast is not included in your booking price I would recommend eating at one of the local cafes.
The hotel is just around the corner from a tram stop that can take you to all the local attractions and the town centre – the hotel reception will provide you with and map and advice on the trams applicable to our destinations - although, the walk to town is only around a half hour and you can absorb the scenery on your way.
Top tip – pre-book tickets for Anne Frank and Van Gough or else you will be queuing for hours!! Also, if you are planning to purchase tulip bulbs at the flower market – do not by at the first stall you see as the prices are cheaper the further you enter into the market.

I stayed with my wife for two nights at a discounted summer rate and we really enjoyed the visit. The attention to detail throughout the hotel is excellent, from the lighting in the rooms, to the quality of design and finishing. We also enjoyed the fact that the hotel was slightly outside the main tourist areas and it was very pleasant to retreat to after a day's walking in the city centre. The health club is superb and was a great round-off to our visit.

Stayed one night (Fri 10th Aug) at the Okura. We were greeted by Valet parking and excellent service. Polite, friendly and helpful. Our room was smart and very clean with good quality coffee, toiletries & towels. Very comfortable luxurious bed. We found the hotel to be in a good location for exploring Amsterdam with a tram into the centre just around the corner. We chose to walk into Amsterdam and found it a pleasant 30min walk to Dam square. I can't comment on food in the hotel as we didn't eat there, as we spent a lot of time exploring Amsterdam. There are a number of really nice bakeries and cafe's about 10-15 mins walk from the hotel that are a lot less touristy than places in the centre. A lovely stay at the Okura and would definitely recommend this hotel.

I have just returned from Amsterdam after a weekend at hotel Okura.
I must admit I had rather high hopes of a good stay and I was not disappointed.
From the moment I arrived the treatment was impeccable, from the front desk staff to the cleaners.
After reading reviews I asked for a room ending in 17, these are corner rooms with a 180 degree view of north and west.
The rooms are fabulous with espresso maker, large LCD tv, the bed was like sleeping on a cloud and it's the first time I have ever had a pillow menu !
The tram into town is convenient but they do stop at midnight.
If it is luxury you are after, look no further, my next stay in Amsterdam will definitely be at Okura.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Okura last week. We both wanted a quiet location and this hotel seemed to fit the bill. It was fantastic. It is far enough away from the seriously touristy spots to be quiet and close via a 5 minute tram ride to anywhere. I walked the neighbourhood alone to visit a local supermarket and it was full of young parents with kids and young professionals on bikes. So safe. The tram is a block around the corner.
I cannot say enough about the staff and the room. The mattress was memory foam with inner spring. There was a pillow menu with at least 8 different pillows to choose from. Remote controls beside the bed controlled curtains, lights, alarm, tv and temperature. Nespresso coffee makers and fab TV and the bathrooms were amazing and included TV there also and seriously hi tek toilet (never thought I would be reviewing a toilet, but its fab).
The staff were amazing and every room service call took about 5 minutes or less for delivery. Internet was included in every room and because we upgraded last minute to a JR suite, high speed was free also.
It does not have a "wow" factor from the outside but inside it most definately does. Spa facilities are lovely and the pool is very large. Restaurants and bar on 23rd floor are 5 star plus for food and ambience. We were on 19th floor and view of Amsterdam was just lovely.
I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone who loves all home amenities and a quiet romantic time or a family with kids or a business trip. If you are up for party weekend in Amsterdam stay somewhere else closer to noise.
Off the charts good for a city hotel anywhere in the world. I can compare it to many in NY and it wins.
Negative is breakfast buffet was overpriced at 30eu a head but if it is included in room its very nice. There are several restaurants nearby that serve breakfast though for far less. Dont skip it if you think you are stuck away from other food options.

We stayed for five nights with two children. All of us were very happy. Comfortable rooms good health club with indoor pool. And the most important the hotel has a choise of great restaurants. There is realy no need to leave the hotel at night. You have the most outstanding restaurants indoor.
