“Can't fault this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

I have stayed at the Okura in Amsterdam for a weekend with my husband followed by 3 business days. This is a very good hotel and the staff is very professional and helpful (especially Yordi!). It is about 15 minutes on the Tram from Dam Square, take Tram number 25 from Cornelis Tram stop and you can also buy your tram tickets directly at the hotel reception. €7.50 for 24h and €12 for 48h. The hotel rooms are modern and clean and being serviced about 3 or 4 times a day. Overall an excellent hotel for business and pleasure.
The only thing to watch out for is that if you book a standard room, you will have to pay an extra €15/day/person to use the gym and the pool... which is pretty average anyway :(
Prices of restaurants and room services are very high (but very good quality).

Is a very good hotel a very nice area close to the restaurants and the tram ans very nice boutique , 40 min walking to city center but the only big , hugge, inconvinient is that the hotel take 100 euros/day for a guaranty ...We left us without money , they took 600 euros for each room , for 5 nights, without leting us know and without our authorisation , we just try to pay somthing nex day with the credit card and found that we do not have that quantity of money .....so be carefull with that situation .In rest nice place to be .

Liked the hotel and the service - enjoyed the sushi restaurant and the quality gym and pool. Easy access to airport and downtown cab/bus.

The hotel as such was great. Nice and quiet location yet still quite central. Great attention to detail. Gorgeous breakfast menu. There was a slight misunderstanding about our reservation, but as we got an upgrade, that was easily fortgiven.

A very fine hotel in a quiet part of Amsterdam. Friendly staff, perhaps a bit rigid. Breakfast ridiculously overpriced at 30 euro. Good high speed wifi and ethernet (not free). Clean. Excellent bed. One can only have a swim when one buys a whole-day ticket at 15 euro, which is a bit steep I think. Nice bar at top floor. Dinner at Serre restaurant very good. Overall, an excellent hotel!

We were advised that the hotel was walking distance from attractions but it was a good hours walk! We spent a fortune on cabs. Next time we will stay at the Marriott!

We stayed at the Hotel Okura in June 2012 after arriving in Amsterdam early morning via cruise ship. Although we arrived early, there was no fuss about allowing us early access to the room, which was greatly appreciated. The room was large, well appointed and very comfortable and the bathroom was amazing. The staff were very helpful and well presented. The hotel is so convenient to the public transport, and the concierge was very helpful with period transport tickets and also canal cruise tickets. The hotel is also convenient for visits to the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum, both early stops on our itinerary.

There were some negatives for us however. The hotel lacked a coffee shop type place to eat , where quick snacks at a value price are available. This was a bit surprising, considering the hotel is a fair way from the cheap eats of the city centre. We ate at the downstairs restaurant on the first night, the one without the Michelin star, but there was still an emphasis on silver service, over-pretty food and at a relatively high cost. This is ok when you're looking for the meal to be an occasion, but often when you're travelling, you just want somewhere quick and easy, nutritious and good value. We had to eat out for that. The breakfast was good, but very expensive - and considering the price, I was surprised there wasn't a chef available to cook eggs etc. fresh. Seemed overpriced for stock standard trays of scrambled eggs. The hotel was also undergoing renovations while we were there, which meant that during the day there was the sound of drilling and grinding echoing throughout the hotel, relatively louder on our floor perhaps. I suppose renovations are necessary, but such noise is quite irritating, especially when you are still paying premium prices. The hotel was also quite busy - there was some sort of convention going on, for which the hotel seems to be well set up. But this did tend to make the lobby busy and noisy, adding to the hammering, drilling and grinding.
These annoyances detracted a little from the experience for us, such that I couldn't rate our experience "excellent" or even "good value". But then, depends upon what alternatives are available and we would consider staying here again, just simply because of the quality of the staff and the comfort of the room.
