“enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

once again an enjoyable stay at the mercure amsterdam. this was our fourth visit this time independently and it was just as always. Extremly clean, warm and efficient. we like this hotel as it is a short walk to both metro station and tram. metro was 2.70 euros for a one hour ticket or 7.40 euros for 24 hour period, ideal to keep popping in and out of town. the staff were very helpful and polite at all times. the modern room overlooking the canal and amsterdam was very comfortable with a huge bed!!!. always plenty of hot water tea and coffee making facilities.
a real mixture of guests from around the world, breakfast was one of the best we have had,
looking forward to returning next year.

Room Tip: ask for a high floor with a view

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for your wonderful review on Tripadvisor. We are very happy to read your experiences where up to your expectations.

As the General Manager of this hotel I am very proud of our breakfast buffets. It is in my believe that we serve one of the best breakfast buffets in Amsterdam. Especially due to the extended range of our breakfast products and fresh orange juice.

Every day we strive to serve our guests even better. Your review will definitely motivate my staff.

Thank you for choosing the Mercure Hotel Amsterdam aan de Amstel en I hope to welcome you again next year.

With the kindest regards,

Robert van Vliet

Stayed at hotel during business trip as it was located approx 10 minutes drive from the office. Hotel is well appointed and room very comfortable.

Walked to the nearby Metro station (5 min) on two nights for ten minute ride to Amsterdam Central.

One point to note is that the hotel is very popular with coach parties that makes the buffett breakfast a bit of a bun fight.

Would stay again.

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for your review on Tripadvisor. Your feedback is important to us in order to improve our services towards our guests.

It is correct that we are located just in the outskirts of Amsterdam, but in retrospect the public transportation if fairly closeby and in walking distance. Next to that we offer our guests the possibility to rent bicycles and even Vespa scooters.

I hope to welcome you again in the Mercure Hotel Amsterdam aan de Amstel.

The overall standard is very good, worthy of a 4-star rating here but I've docked a star due to its remote location. However, if you're attending an event at the Stadium/Arena then it's a 5-10 minute walk to the tram and only four stops. If you're heading to Centraal station it's only a 10 minute tram ride for about €1.50 or so. You're unlikely to be bothered by anyone walking to/from the tram stop as there are only offices and business units nearby. We stayed for one night as we attended a concert at the Ziggo Dome, which is an excellent music venue.

The room was immaculately clean and decorated in a fresh modern style and service was very friendly and efficient. It's not fantastic value but then again most of the popular places in central Amsterdam seem to be fairly expensive so if you don't mind travelling a bit and paying less for your stay, I can certainly recommend this place.

It is not in the centre of Amsterdam, but if you don't mind walking ten minutes and taking a tram it's fine. The rooms are nice, clean and spaceous. I felt I got what I paid for. We only were there for one night. It was perfect for the occasion. Easy to reach, straight off the highway. Getting from there to Schiphol (airport) was very easy too. Staff was friendly, also cleaners, basically everyone we met there.

NIce hotel, in the middle of an industrial zone
Perfect location for exhibitors at RAI (Amsterdam exhibition center), less than 2 km away.
Not fantastic for tourist for same reason (a bit "in the middle of nowhere")
Upsides : confortable, very good internet connection, good restaurant
Downside : rates are not low (165€/night...)
Main issue : only 2 lifts, and one being in maintenance : up to 5 minutes waiting, no stairs.....

It is correct that we are located just in the outskirts of Amsterdam, but in retrospect the public transportation if fairly closeby and in walking distance. Next to that we offer our guests the possibility to rent bicycles and even Vespa scooters.

Next to that, currently we are renovating our elevators in order to improve efficiency. This can increase the waiting time during the renovation between 24-10-2012 and 09-11-2012.

I hope to welcome you again in the Mercure Hotel Amsterdam aan de Amstel.

BAD
-Far location: A very boring and relatively long walk to either the Tram or Metro station. You end up taking cabs when it's raining or when you have so many shopping bags. A cab from Central Station will cost you 25 euros.

-Ripoff (personal experience): I asked how much for a minute to call oversees and they said 2 euros, and on check out I get a 10 euro/minute rate. I made a fuss and then they give me a 50% discount because of the "misunderstanding". A very weird experience, because I have to say in all other instances the management/staff acted very professionally

-A weird staff member: The lady with the dark hair on the reception states that she explained the answers to my colleagues in the group, so she doesn't have to explain again (even though I was in the toilet when she explained in the first place). I ask her if I can take a van (6 seats) to the airport and she says no and that only regular cabs are available (I then call a van and go with another couple to the airport)

-The rooms are small in size, and the bathroom door does not close fully (the new design trend) so you feel lack of privacy when your spouse is in the other room

GOOD
-Sparkling clean: It's either new or renovated but everything from the plates, silverware, bed sheets, pillows, bathrooms etc... are sparkling clean

-The majority of the staff is great. All the ladies are helpful except the one at the lobby with the dark hair (the rest are blondes!) so stay away. I know her name but I would rather keep it.

-I would guess it's a good choice if you're attending a conference in the hotel and you don't care about visiting the city and because it's also not far from the airport

OVERALL
I would stay away if time went back
