The hotel is easy to find, only a short walk from the central station and the Damark.

The hotel is clean and tidy. We stayed in the third floor which is in a linked building over an alleyway. The lift takes you to the second floor and then you walk over the alley in a glazed corridor to another lift to take you to the remaining floors of the hotel. A bit querky, but no big deal.

We had a large room which was clean and tidy, loads of space to relax - wardrobe (with safe), double bed, desk, arm chair and coffee table. the bathroom was spacious and clean.

We ate breakfast in the hotel, despite being on a room only basis, and although it is a lot of additional money (about 15euro per head) the food is good and plentiful!

The only issue when we stayed was that we were woken early on two days (sat and mon - sunday was ok though!) by construction work - drilling, banging etc... The receptionist could only apologise as this was in an adjacent building and outside the hotel's control. Our fellow travellers were staying on the second floor, not over the alleyway and in the building above reception, and they didn't hear a thing. Not sure how long the building work is scheduled for, but might be worth asking for a quiet room when you book for the next 12 months or so?

The bar area is modern and contemporary with free internet access.

Apart from the neighbouring construction noise - which again is not the hotels fault - our stay was good. the hotel is in a great location and within walking distance to almost everything and if not its a stones throw from a tram line which goes further afield. The breakfast was good, but if you can get a bed and breakfast deal then all the better. Overall, a clean and comfortable stay!

This hotel was easy to find from the Central Train Station. just walk down a major street and it's between one of the alleys. We walked to all the close sites-shopping areas, coffeeshops, restaurants, red light distrtict! The hotel is in a great loc. and all the alley's seem to lead back to one of the major streets. The hotel was nice and modern and the beds were comfy.

The only complaint was the AC wasn't working, however, it wasn't very hot in amsterdam in August so it wasn't bad. Also, we got a room that was facing the front of the hotel where the restaurants, coffeeshops and clubs/bar was downstairs. This made it a little loud to sleep at night but it died down at around 2am. I guess it's ok since we're a young couple but if you want peace and quiet, ask for a room that does not face the main area.

Food was easy to find everywhere. We ate at the bar next door, a thai place down the street and there were tons of cuisine choices all around if you walk.

I would recommend this hotel for it's convenience.

  • Liked — Location was great, easy to get to and from the train station/airport. Everything in walking dist. BTW, they don't check tram tickets so we hopped on and off to get to museums
  • Disliked — A bit noisy at night since the town doesn't sleep til late- there is a club to the left and a bar to the right.

Good reception staff, fluent in English. Great location, quiet room. Huge comfortable bed, and all of the other positive comments already posted.

The only reason for this message is to warn drivers that they need proper directions to the de Kolk car park. We came from one direction, the only two signs we subsequently saw were for traffic coming the opposite direction. We drove around the block three times and ended up in the Amsterdam Central car park 3-400 yards away near the train station (no great problem). If you come by train then it's not a problem at all.

  • Liked — Great bedroom
  • Disliked — Trying to find the car park

This hotel is in a great location but is let down by a few things small rooms not enough towels. We booked a queen size and got 2 singles not even pushed together. The breakfast is good but expensive at 20e per person.

On the whole the golden tulip is an average hotel in a good location but there are far better hotels in the same price range a bit further out of the centrum the walk would be worth it!

The crowne plaza is a bit more expensive but worth the extra money or if you really like the swissotel is the best hotel in Amsterdam for this price range.

We picked this hotel as it was only a short walk from the Central Station, but not on the noisy main road. The concierge took care of our luggage until our room was ready as we had arrived early in the day. We had a superior room on the 5th floor, non smoking as requested. The room was immaculate, with everything you expect such as a safe, coffee making facilities and a fridge. The bed was large and very comfortable. The bathroom looked almost new and had a great power shower,
If I had to pick a fault I could say that the room was a little smaller than expected, and faced the inside, so I suggest requesting an outward facing room.
We did not try the breakfast as €16.50 each seemed a bit steep, Instead we had a full English and coffee at the nearby Corner cafe, which cost €19 for two. It was very good, but for that you don't get any coffee refills, orange juice or fruit. The Hotel breakfast might be allright for a treat provided you eat everything including the advertised champagne!
