Lovely clean and well located hotel, local to all amenities. 10 minute walk from train station 5 minutes from Dam Square. Quite a peaceful hotel but spoilt Saturday night by a rowdy group singing at 3am in the lift! Would definately reccomend and go back. Excellent.

Me and my three girlfriends arrived at the hotel at 11:00pm on February 21, 2007. We arrived from Paris via train. When we arrived, our two standard rooms were occuppied. However, the receptionist upgraded our room from standard to deluxe. We had rooms on the same floor. Then, the troubles began. My friends front door was broken and both of our rooms had white stains on the insides of the comforter. Hence, SEX STAINS! In addition, there was a smear of blood on the side of my mattress. They moved all four of us to a master room which holds four people and one bathroom, until two deluxe rooms became available. So, we ended up staying in the master room for the night. Thank goodness the next morning we got our rooms because the loud construction going on was extremely annoying. The manager came to escort us to the other rooms and I explained everything to her about the problems. When we arrived at one of the rooms; OOPS, there it goes again, those horrible white stains under the comforter. The manager asked the house cleaner to change our comforter. They did and that was the end of the nightmare. CHECK THE COMFORTERS BECAUSE THEY DON'T CHANGE NOR WASH THEM AFTER CHECK OUT! The manager apologized and brought us each a fruit basket.

Nevertheless, the staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. They have free internet access and it was never a wait to use it. It is a perfect location from everything. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the redlight district, the largest coffee shop and Ann Franks House. The food is really good. You won't starve.

Overall, you'll enjoy amsterdam and the coffee shops if you enjoy cannibas!

Amsterdam. Famous for drugs, prostitutes and sex shows. So do yourself a favour and book a central hotel in all the action but that makes you feel safe at and comfortable at night. After 24 hours of being offered hardcore drugs by hardcore men this is exactly what the Golden Tulip provided!
The hotel was booked online with lastminute and was a great find. If you havent been to Amsterdam before the star ratings are equal in quality to those of the UK. On my last trip with 5 lads, 3 star was fine and basic and clean enough to "crash". This time with the wife and we agreed to drop an extra star on the end and the difference was everything you'd expect.
The hotel is centrally placed 2 small "blocks" over the back of the main high street the Damrak. This means it's next door to pubs and restaurants and a small walk from breakfast locations. (This is particularily good to hear as breakfast in the hotel is 20 euros each and a full english can be found only yards away for 6). The Golden Tulip is also only 5 minutes walk from the train station, do not get a cab but if you're really struggling 1.60 euros on a 1,2 or 5 tram is easy as it stops outside the hotel (2nd stop). This line also continues down to other great areas and pubs and to the museum quarter, Heineken experience and the casino area so in itself serves as a day out.
The lifts can only be activated by a key card in the hotel and the bar area is very relaxing. They do show football and sports in the hotel but the bar directly next door has a huge screen, food, pool tables and cheaper beer so why hang around?
My wife upgraded us to a suite as a birthday suprise and this cost around £35 per night. It was well worth the extra as we had a large room with extravigate beems in the old part of the hotel along with a jacuzzi.
The only negative on this hotal was the warmth of the particular room I was in. Although understandably a "unique" room the aircon thermostat seemed to recognise the temperature was low but refused to do anything but blow out cool air. The electric heater they had put in the room worked but the high ceilings and single pain glass were just too much for it to make a difference. I dont feel the cold but the wife does and the room really should have been a degree or two higher.
Other than that, great time, great hotel, highly recommended.

After reading review after review about other hotels in the centre of Amsterdam, and most not very good, I was very pleased to come across the Golden Tulip.

I'm happy to say that the reviews were right - it is a great hotel.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were lovely and adequate for a two night stay. If anything - go to Amsterdam just for the shower in this hotel - they were fantastic.

The breakfast was tasty, though the scrambled eggs were a little strange as it had smoked cheese in it! Our breakfast wasn't included in our room price, which we didn't realise, but they gave us a discount after we explained, which was nice.

The hotel is very centrally located and many attractions are just around the corner and only a five minute walk from the central station from the airport.

Would definitely go back to this hotel on next visit to Amsterdam.
