I am reading the other reviews and wondering if we all stayed at the same place.

For starters, let me say the place is perfectly located!! Perfectly-you are near everything you want to be near-including the train station! I couldn't believe our location.

The place is fine and the location makes it worth staying. But the rooms are small-very small-my husband and I had to turn sideways to pass each other in certain part of the room. It is definately clean-very clean. The breakfast is fine, but I thought expensive for what it was (although I found amsterdam rather costly in general)

As for the staff (and this is the part I where I wonder if I stayed in a different hotel then the other reviewers)-they were rather unfriendly and never helpful!

I love this site and check it any time I stay at a hotel so I wanted to return the favor. All in all the location can not be beat and it was a very decent hotel, no major complaints, nothing gross or anything like that-just small and unfriendly staff. I would probably not stay here again, but not because I hated it just because I feel like for what I paid, I would have liked to have not been treated like a bother!

having read some reviews of amsterdam hotels, we were very concerned about where to stay on our budget. What a pleasent surprise the golden tulip was. Our rooms were large and very clean, our bed provided the best nights sleep we ever had in a hotel. Bathrooms had a lovely deep bath and shower, and good quality toiletries. We found the staff helpfull and friendly, nothing too much trouble (we made several requests, from printing out internet information to extra fresh milk in our room for our early moring tea.) The hotel was situated in an ideal location, central to Dam square, but in a quite area, a good selection of resturants, and bars. If you are looking to stay in Amsterdam, this hotel will provide you with all the comforts of home.

Nice location, near train station. QUIET. clean. Not too small. Helpful staff.
Only bad part was additional tax at the end, whereas I had paid all taxes via hotels.com, so beware.
