“Highly recommended for a relaxing stay in the hustle and bustle of central Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013 via mobile

Myself and my husband have just returned from a 6 night stay at the Hotel Amsterdam and could not have been happier with our hotel experience. We arrived in Amsterdam at 10am local time, exhausted having had a long journey. The hotel not only had our room ready and waiting at no extra charge but they had been kind enough to give us a free upgrade to a junior suite as it was my birthday. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, over the course of our stay they recommended restaurants and excursions as well as giving us directions and lending us brollies. Our room was large and very clean and comfortable, the bed was lovely and comfy and the bath was deep enough to float in.......pure bliss!! Location wise, it was 10 min walk from the station and central for all attractions, infact we didn't need to use public transport at all, everything was within 30mins walk at the very most. Despite the central location I found our room to be quiet and a nice escape from the craziness of the city, it was also air conditioned. Had I paid the full price for the junior suite, my only niggle would have been that the daily housekeeping could have been better, some days we came back to a spotless room, on others I felt that the bathroom could have been more thoroughly cleaned and our mugs were not always cleaned. I found the towels provided to be a bit small but that's my only comments! Overall I would completely recommend this hotel to friends and will look to stay again when I return to Amsterdam in future.

How great that we could upgrade you to a Junior suite because of your birthday. I was pleased to learn that my Front-Office staff met your expectations and aplogize that the Housekeeping did not fulfil their duties for a full 100%. Your comments have been forwarded to our Executive Housekeeper as point of attention. I was pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you on antoher (birthday ?) occasion again

With best regards

This hotel is in a great location, its one straight walk from Amsterdam Centraal station and directly at Dam square and Monument with plenty of shops surronding it. However my biggest complaint about this hotel is the fact that the room i was given was so tiny. The room and bathroom looks alot bigger in the pictures to how small the room is in real life. To give you an idea of how tiny it is you could reach your hand out of the shower and touch the wall. The bedroom itself is also tiny with not much room to move around. The desk is connected to the bed and when sleeping in the night i banged my head against the corner which was very painful. The view looked on to the fire escape again nothing like the views you are shown on expedia. The staff were friendly but it doesnt make up for the fact the room was so tiny. It was also very loud with the cleaners cupboard being outside our room and them banging and using it and tlaking loudly from 8am onwards.

I would recommend this hotel but dont stay on the 4th floor even though we was promised and booked a king bed through expedia it was nothing like what was given to us.It was also very expensive.

Room Tip: do not have a room on the 4th floor.

It is with regret that I learned that your stay with not entirely what you epxected it to be and apologize that you had a noisy room. Most of our rooms are very quiet because they are facing inside courts but in your case you seemed to be next to the office of Housekeeping. As you mentioned it there is not much of a view. For those who want more space we recommend our superior rooms which are only slightly more expensive. You found the room rate expensive and I suppose that you stayed with us in one of the busy congress periods in september. Our rates fluctuate following the demand (like it is the case with the airplanes) so if you are not stuck to a certain day it is always prudent to consult the rates during other days. Would you consider coming back please mention your specific requirements. If this is not possible on the booking site you can always forward your request by e-mail
Yours sincerely

We only had 3 days to make the most of out visit to Amsterdam. This hotel was in an ideal position being walking distance to many tourist attractions and bus/canal tours. Had a corner front room with ttremendous view of Main Street. Room was exceptionally roomy with a standard of a 5 star hotel. Will certainly go back to this hotel on future visits to Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Corner suits best for roominess and view

We appreciate all comments not only the positive but also the negative. In your case it is a positive one and from your comments I can understand that you had a superior room overlooking the Damrak and Dam square. Indeed you have a spectacular view on the Amsterdam city life. And of course our location is one of the best in town. This is a fact and has nothing to do with our effort to make our guests feel at home. We look forward to your next visit

My husband and I along with our two teenage children were lucky to stay at this very cozy hotel for eight nights...our beautiful experience of Amsterdam and its surroundings would not have been complete without this very comfortable stay .

Before booking for our trip, which was lasted from Aug 7th till Aug 15, 2013, I searched for a good hotel through Tripadvisor which was always very helpful in our previous trips to Europe.
When it came to Hotel AMsterdam - De Roode Leew,I found out that The Hotel manager, Mr. Wildeman responded to all the comments of the guests, both positive and negative and from what I read it seemed like a nice hotel with a caring honest manager.

True to our expectations, the hotel was very comfortable, clean and the staff were super friendly, especially the receptionists naming in particular a wonderful young lady called Ozlen .
The Hotel Restaurant serves very tasty food, and the service was great thanks to Peter and the rest of the staff.

In conclusion, I would like to strongly recommend this hotel, and will certainly go back whenever in Amsterdam

Room Tip: ask for a front room if you want a nice view for the Damrak street

I do not have the occasion to talk to every guest but still remember you very well and how we discussed about my intention to visit Petra once. As you stayed so long you had a good chance to see what our city and hotel have to offer. Of course I am pleased to learn that it was such a positive experience. You were lucky that our summer showed its sunny face during your stay.
It will be a pleasure for my team and myself to welcome you and your family again in the future

I stayed at the smallest available room for nine nights. I gotta say its a very nice hotel to stay at. The room is tiny, just as advertised. However it is big enough if you are spending most of your time outside exploring the city. The location is the best possible location in town. It is about a 10 minute walk from the Central Station and is at the absolute center of the city. Everything is just a walk away. The only complaint I have is the slow internet speed.

Indeed we do have some small rooms also but also the rates for these rooms are "small". The equipment however is the same as in larger rooms. I was pleased to learn that you enjoyed your stay. As far as the speed of internet is concerned,; following complaints of other guests, we discovered that in some corners of the building the coverage of the WiFi was not as it should be. We are now considering to give our system a serious upgrade with higher bandwith and it will stay free of charge of course.
We look forward to welcoming you again

We have spent a lovely time in this hotel twice..Both times we were delighted with the friendly and capable people who make staying in this hotel a very enjoyable experience. The spacious pleasantly furnished rooms are decorated with beautiful Amsterdam pictures, and having a cup of tea or coffee overlooking the Dam is an experience in itself. Situated in the city center everything interesting is at walking distance. Breakfast is very good as well, and gave our days a good start! We recommend this hotel to everyone who likes just that extra bit of good Dutch hospitality!!
