Location: Very near to the Railway Station. In the midst of many restaurants and busy streets and yet somehow the entrance of the hotel was quite, secluded and nice.
Staff: Very cooperative in stay and helpful with directions and sight seeing tips. Spoke extremely good English. The Concierge was most efficient, polished and very helpful. The hotel and the staff had an overall good old English charm to it.
Rooms: Our room was very good and large enough with attached shower and WC that was very clean. Rooms were cleaned everyday.
Hotel Ambience: Very good, immediately you feel you are in a truly class place. Enough staff for all needs and very good lobby.
Breakfast: Sorry did not eat there.
Other Convenience: None as such except that it is near the station. Shops and museums are close by, as is I guess whole of Amsterdam is very compact. Many restaurants and internet shops abound around the hotel which we found to be very convenient. The day we arrived it was their monthly guest reception day and we were served free cocktails.

Overall: Very Good.

I also got a deal on Priceline and after reading a lot of reviews here expected to be uncomfortable. My room was huge (not a cozy Dutch interior but who needs wallpaper with all of Amsterdam outside). The staff were friendly and helpful. I did get room service (rushed before my airport shuttle even). Maybe some disgruntled lodgers have not stayed in some other hotels in Amsterdam. I've paid about the same, even more, for a lot less. Last good point, I had never explored this area as I usually try and stay closer to the middle and really enjoyed exploring the Brouwersgracht and around. Beware of rooms on the street, it is a lot busier and nosier than it first seems.

I can't write enough about this great hotel about a block and a half from central station. It is pretty quite located next to the Singel Canal. Yet a short walk from the main strip for shopping, eats, and anything else you came to amsterdam for. Also you go left out of the hotel, and the tram/bus stop is right on the corner from the hotel taking you to the other parts of the city. Even feeling a little sick during my trip due to getting used to the different food, I didn't feel like I missed much being only steps from shopping, and food outside of the hotel. This hotel is pretty pricey if you go straight at it around $300 per night, but you can get it for less than half that if you book through priceline.

Booked 3 nights in this hotel on the hotel website, but this did not stop them from checking us out each day, meaning our door cards which give access to lifts, rooms etc, were cancelled each day. The first morning we received a phone call from reception telling us to leave the room as we were supposed to checkout. Despite providing our booking confirmation, they were adamant we had to leave. This happened the next morning as well, without apology. The rooms are generally very dated and lack tea and coffee facilites. As for the onsight bar or Kopel Cafe, the staff were rude, unhelpful and hard to find. It took over 20 mins to get served on the saturday night and then we could not have the drink we wanted as they had run out of glasses!! Overall, for the price, not very impressive.

At 165 EUR/night corporate, this hotel is exceptionally poor value for money. Not at all up to the standards one would expect of a Renaissance/Marriott property. Bedroom was small, very dark, and claustrophobic. Windows don't open properly, and ventilation either leaves you too hot or too cold. Thin duvets, small beds and uncomfortable mattresses. The rooms and hallways have very low ceilings. Being 6'3 tall, I had about 2 inches of clear space between the top of my head and the hallway and bathroom ceilings! The hallways are dark and scarily univiting. Bedroom windows face into a prison-like central courtyard. No room service is available. The decor is like something out of a 1970's time warp. Paper-thin walls so you can hear the various bathroom noises of the person next door and above you!
The only plus point might be its proximity to Central station.
Bottom line -- Stay away!
