“Nice Hotel but a little on the pricey side”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2009

Very nice hotel with ok room service and nicer rooms. When I stayed there was a bit of renovations going on, but I would assume those t be completed now. I found the hotel a bit over priced, but for the typcal 4 or 5 star in Amsterdam this seemed to be the norm. This hotel is well located and only a few blocks from the centraal train station. Also its towards the top of the Jordaan so makes for easy acess to most of that area as well. In general I would stay here again (as long as my companyw as paying for it).

This was our third trip to Amsterdam and this was byfar the best hotel, even the best hotel in Europe we've ever stayed. The hotel had just completed a 100% rennovation before we arrived. The rooms were great, HUGE rooms for Europe and they were Modern, Wonderful Beds, Great Shower and it was brand new! The tolietrees were wonderful, didn't need a thing. The bar downstairs was nice and they would stay late for a few more drinks after they closed. Very Nice.
You can see the influence Ritz-Carlton has had on this property! Very nice. The only complaint we had was the breakfast was way too pricey 20 euro for continental breakfast and 35 euro for full buffet. Thst's okay it gave us a chance to try places around for food and kept us out of the hotel to see the city.

Stayed here for one night and found no faults at all. It looks as though it has been renovated fairly recently. Rooms are very comfortable. Pleasant welcome at reception as well. The hotel is a few minutes walk from Central Station and pretty handy for most other things in the centre. We paid 104 Euro's and thought it good value for money.

Having read reviews about renovations and building works we were a bit concerned before going but with no need to be. The hotel was great, the room (go for King rather than Queen as the room size is that little bit more generous) immaculate and everything felt new and luxurious. The beds are very comfortable with a soft mattress cover allowing you to melt into the bed. The bathroom, though not particularly large, was spotless, and well-designed, and once we requested bathrobes and slippers we were all set for the weekend. Location was fantastic, less than 5 mins from the Central Stations and a stone's throw from good restaurants, cafes and other entertainment. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Combine that with a great offer we had on the price, and we were literally laughing.

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel last weekend. Reception staff and concierge extremely friendly and helpful. Was a bit worried as I had read some other reviews which were not great but only fault I had with the room was it was too warm even with the air conditioning on. Room was spotlessly clean, lovely bathroom, great shower. Beds are absolutely divine, so comfy. Only regret was we had not booked breakfast and didn't find anywhere that great nearby. Next time I would have breakfast included as it looked lovely. Location is great for Central Station. Within walking distance of Dam Sq and Red Light district too. Tram to Van Gogh museum though as too far.
Also try the tapas restuarant around the corner from the hotel called Joselito's, excellent atmosphere, great for people watching and food good.Turn right out of hotel and then right again.

I hadn't stayed here for a while. Last time I was in town, the place was being refurbished. Paid €149 per night which by Amsterdam standards is pretty cheap. The renovations are complete - and happily the only thing which is the same is the standard of service, which is excellent.
I stayed in room 644. I don't know if that was an upgrade or not, but if it wasn't, it was an exceptional room. The whole hotel is non-smoking now (like all Dutch hotels I think) so the "exotic herbal" smells which used to permeate the place are a thing of the past.
Huge room, everything is and smells new, and as someone else wrote, the bedding is lovely. Great location if you are in Amsterdam on business or pleasure - Centraal Station is 3 mins walk, loads of nightlife around the hotel.
Just goes to show what a difference a refurbishment can make. Always used to enjoy staying here for the location and the staff. For some inexplicable reason I always liked the place, even though it was slightly "ropey". But now, it's a lovely hotel.

We spend last weekend at the Renaissance in Amsterdam in a newly refurbished deluxe room on the 8th floor. The entrance was a bit difficult to find in the dark. Check-in was quick and pleasant. Lobby is very nice with beautiful modern fireplace and a concierge that is there all the time and he can help you out with all your questions and luggage. Staff was so friendly and helpfull during our stay. Our room was not big but it had everything you want from a hotel of this standard. It was so recently refurbished that you could still smell the new carpeting which by the way was fantastic: I could actually feel my feet sink into it as soon as I left the lift! But the best thing has to be the beds! I have stayed at Hilton hotels and Hyatts allover the world but never came across bedding of this kind of quality! I just didnt want to get up anymore! The bed was so big and the matrasses not too hard or to soft, just perfect and then we also asked for feather pillows which were divine as well. I even asked the manager which brand the beds were made by because I now want to buy the same for my own house!
The hotel is located close to everything that is important: central station, trams into Amsterdam, Red light district, walking distance of Anne Frank house ect ect.
Breakfast was fantastic as well: lots to choose from, fresh oranges and grapefruits that were already peeled and sliced, omelets made fresh to order, good coffee and juices.
The Renaissance is a good choice to stay if you want an affordable but still deluxe weekend in Amsterdam!
