“Not Your Usual Marriott”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

We chose this hotel because with a Marriott you usually get consistency. Close to the center of town but not necessarily a clean area. The hotel service was not good. The room a bit dirty. Pay for Wi-fi and breakfast on top of it all. We were not impressed. An average hotel experience at best.

We stayed for one night before embarking on a cruise and were totally satisfied with our experience. We were able to check in by 9:30 a.m. after an overnight flight from the US, and enjoyed the Club Level breakfast before setting out to see the city. With the proximity to the canal boats and Central Station it is a great spot. While frequented by flight crews and business people it put us exactly where we wanted to be to explore before leaving late morning the next day. A front office manager offered us assistance as we walked through the lobby, and we asked to see the Koepelkerk, now their conference center. He took the time to take us through via the connecting passageway and shared his enthusiasm for working at the property. Even though a bit more than we ususally pay at a Marriott property, well worth it for the convenience and reliability.

Wonderful hotel in a great location of Amsterdam - a quick 10 minute walk and you are at one of the canals.
Great amenities and a great afternoon snack/breakfast buffet if you get club lounge level - only complaint is we only found out about the fact we had access to this the next afternoon.
The other only other complaint is Housekeeping starts before 9 am and was very loud in the hallway - talking, vacumning, etc., - not used to this in other nice hotels we have stayed in on the trip.
Other than that - it is a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: High floor

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Renaissance. The location is in walking distance to the train station and close to the canals. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all our needs. Rooms were small, but had everything we needed.

Had an superior room at this hotel for a few days.
Room was nice with a desk to work at, a sofa with table, 32 inch tv and big, nice, comfortable bed.
I find it as a minus when a hotel has minibar with overpriced items and sensors so you cant take anyting out an replace with your own stuff.
Breakfast was very nice, but missed more bread assortment, as a price of 28 euros for the breakfast. Bar was nice, and the typical Amsterdam Cafe too. The Italian restaurant was not tried, but the antipasti buffet looked very nice.

This is clearly a top hotel. The rooms are large, the beds comfy, good shower, excellent service, perfect location (10min walk from central station, 30sec away from canal) BUT you pay for it.

I cannot find any fault with this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed my stay however if it were not a business trip I would not have stayed here because of the price.

I always stay at the The Renaissance when in Amsterdam. I am a Platinum member of the Marriott Rewards program, so that has some influence on my decision of where to stay, but the location of the Renaissance is outstanding. It is a four block walk to the train station and is close to lots of great shopping and restaurants. Additionally, you can get on the tram just a block or so away. Their service is very, very good. The amenities are what you would expect from an upscale property. The club lounge is outstanding with comfortable seating and great views of the street below. The food in the restaurant is pretty decent, too. I needed some help with booking a train trip to Dusseldorf while I was there, and their Guest Services department really exceeded my expectations with their assistance on that.
