“Very good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

We stayed in Amsterdam for a weekend and spent two nights at the Renaissance. We where happy with the overall stay and would like to point out the following "pros" and "cons".

Pros:
- The hotel is situated within five minutes from the train station (where you arrive from Schipol).
- The hotel is new and fresh and gives an overall welcoming approach
- The front of house are very friendly, check in was smooth
- There is a free of charge guide at your disposal and this person has a broad knowledge of Amsterdam (use him!)
- The beds are fantastic.
- The lounge bar is pleasant has provides free of charge board games.

Cons:
- Breakfast is served in a rather noisy atmosphere. You do not want to linger for long.
- The rooms are rather small and lacks some fundamental equipment for a de luxe room (hair dryer for instance)

I liked this hotel, nice atmosphere, nice staff, nice exec lounge - usual standard snacks (same every day tho) & it had a help yourself BEER TAP, an alcoholics dream! I only had one beer though, honest!!

The only real problem was the key system they use, we had to go back down to the lobby at least six times to get the door keys reset, they just stopped working... I had a flick through some old tripadvisor reviews and it appears other guests also had key problems. I was actually tempted at one stage to leave the room door unlocked when popping downstairs, sooner than risk the key not working. Great if you're a locksmith who can open doors, or a master burglar, but if you're bad at opening doors then you won't have much fun.

Stayed there before going on our river cruise. The service was excellent. The restaurant was great. Read my review of the restaurant. The hotel is close to the central rail station and the cruise terminal. From the airport you can take the train or, as w edid, take the Conexion bus for €13.

This was a very busy hotel on the weekend I stayed but I guess this is normal for Amsterdam. The hotel is just in a side street just off the main road through Amsterdam and about a 5 minute walk from the Central Railway Station. The public areas are modern and spacious as were the rooms although because of its layout two separate elevators are required to reach rooms on some higher floors. One of the days I woke late only to find there was no hot water left for a shower but this was a minor inconvenience. The hotel is also close to all of Amsterdam’s attractions including the red light district and a 10 minute walk from Dam Square. There is a concierge lounge for guest who have access but breakfast was served in the main dining area which was quite crowed over the weekend.

The general service was superb, room was very comfortable, exec lounge well worth paying for.
Two small criticisms ; For a chain of this standing they should provide free internet access, the system was both expensive and incredibly confusing. Also, what poor quality toilet paper!

Room Tip: Make sure you are very specific about bed size and number of beds, particularly if you are with chil...

This hotel a Marriot brand is well situated in Amsterdam, walking distance to most attractions and the public areas and the rooms are very nice. Very clean and well appointed.
The disppointing aspects are that
1. the Club Rooms are as far away from the reception as you can get and two floors up from the Lounge, no great view either. Breakfast in the lounge whilst probably very good for businessmen/women, for a family with a teenager the choice is very limited. Luckily we had booked a rate which included full breakfast in the restaurant, even though when we went down for breakfast we were not on the list for breakfast.
2. Breakfast choice in the restaurant was the poorest I have ever had in a Marriott hotel and decaff coffee only instant Nescafe.
3. Restaurant was closed on Sunday which was highlighted when booking, but we we were there for the Easter weekend and the restaurant was closed on the Monday evening also, something which customer services did not seem to be aware of, this is very poor for a 4 star hotel. I had been ill during the Monday so we didn't want to venture out of the hotel so to find that we could only eat in the Kohpelcaffe or room service was extremely disappointing especially when we had lunch in the cafe on the Sunday and the menu was very limited, good for lunchtime, but not dinner; 'Oh'there was a special ''Easter Menu'' an either or for main course. As I had been ill I was not going to eat much, but was going to have a dessert. Both my son and I decided on the Creme Catalan only to be told that there was only 1 left.
4. Free WIFI access in Club rooms is a very good idea, but we had none over our whole stay. We called the Internet provider and firstly I was told that our code had not been input onto the system and then that there seemed to a problem with the IP address. As we were on our way out for the day we were advised that they would have it sorted by the time we got back, No it didn't happen. Also we had a charge on our bill for the phone call even though customer service connected us. The charge was taken off when I queried it at checkout/
The plus points were the roooms were spacious and comfortable, water in bathroom was nice and hot, the Navigators were very nice and the recommendations they gave were excellent.
All in All great trip to Amsterdam which is a beautiful city, but when we return the Renaissance will not be our first port of call even though I am a Marriott rewards member.

Room Tip: Club rooms are good if you don't mind two elevators and a long walk.

Stayed with family over Easter. A very clean and well-appointed hotel - close to the station (very fast service from the airport) and the numerous attractions of Amsterdam (very walkable).

Breakfast was excellent - only minor downer, as regards location, is that (if you have kids) if you come back to the hotel via the Spuistraat it is difficult to avoid the girls in the red-light windows, who start work quite early.

Room Tip: Tram passes are available from the transport office OUTSIDE the Central station (building to the lef...
