“The perfect place to stay in a city rich with hotels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2010

We were in Holland for the Christmas holidays and because of horrid weather all over Europe, family events and illness, we needed to crash for a couple of days in Amsterdam. This was the perfect place: excellent service, food, fabulous location ( a block from the Rijksmuseum, two blocks from the Van Gogh museum. Everyone is bilingual (at least), cordial, helpful. The restaurant is excellent (their onion soup is not too salty), the steaks and chops superb. Even room service Eggs Benedict were PERFECT.

So, while I hope your trip to Amsterdam occurs in better circumstances than ours did, I really recommend this hotel if you want an "American" hotel to come home to each evening.

The hotel is located perfect in the middle of the best dining area of Amsterdam. The airport bus stops right front of the hotel, tram line is just passing by, though we didn't use it at all. The hotel is close to all the nice bars and restaurants. Momo, American Bar, Palladium, The Little Budha.... And the perfect shopping street PC is again very close.
The hotel is nice and comfortable but as a 5 star hotel they should provide the most basic things as slippers, ear-sticks, cotton etc. It feels cheap to not find such basic but useful things in the room.
Next time I'm traveling to Amsterdam, I'll read the recent reviews about the NH Hotel and pick that one if the price is quite lower than Marriott. They are located just side by side and if the service level and room features are same, no need to pay extra.

I stayed here for 6 nights for a business trip. The room was clean and comfortable enough. The location was good, in between the city center and the Rai. But any resemblance with a 5-star hotel is merely a coincidence. The reception staff was not particularly helpful, I had to repeatedly call Housekeeping for items they delivered only on the 4th day of my stay, had to remove the toilet brush from the toilet bowl, and found the room very small with the sofa squeezed tight between the window and the bed.

The best part of the hotel is the Midtown Grill restaurant, which hosts the hotel's excellent breakfast buffet and serves good food and wine for dinner with friendly wait staff.

All in all it was an OK stay, but it certainly did not have a 5-star feel to it, which left me rather disappointed. I might stay here again for business, but would not recommend it to my friends for a vacation.

The Marriott is in a great location near the Vondelpark as well as Leidseplein and a quick tram ride to the museums. Our room was beautifully decorated and fairly spacious.

I ahve stayed here before and love the location. You can walk everywhere, or take a trolly or bus from right outside the hotel There is a bus to the airport for only 4 euros. Nice rooms, though ask for 2 double beds to get a larger room.

It is the second time I stay in this hotel and the quality of the service is as good as last time. The staff is very helpful and professional, the situation is simply perfect and the rooms are comfortable and quite spacious.

When we went there with a friend of mine, it was snowing, sightseeing was really exhausting as we had to cope with the cold and wind and it was a real pleasure to be back in a cosy hotel like the Marriott Amsterdam.

The location is perfect, right in front of Leidsplein where are plenty of pubs and restaurants. The casino is just on the opposite side of the canal, 500m away maximum.
The museum district is not far either, one just need to cross the Vondel Park which is right next to the hotel.

I could only recommend this hotel for a stay in Amsterdam, it is very convenient to discover the city in good conditions.

The hotel is located near Leidseplein and is therefore well connected to major tram and bus lines. The Museum Quarter is just a nice walk away and there are plenty of restaurants and shops in the vicinity.

Though its outside appearence is that of a oddly shaped bunker, it is rather attractive from the inside and many parts seem to be newly renovated.

After the first room we were give was not made up when we entered, we were upgraded to a 11th (top) floor Executive Room (# 1136), which - apart from the nice view - was not much different from the first one. That is apart from the noise. When we went to sleep and turned off the A/C we remarked the noise remained: some kind of ventilator was working on the roof right above us 24 hours a day. As we didn't want to move again, we bought some Oropax for the second night and were fine and enjoyed the comfortable bedding, but quite frankly, they shouldn't sell a room like this (expect to the deaf or very hard-of-hearing).

Breakfast buffet was good, although some staff members lacked enthusiasm.

Bottom line: great place to stay, but check the noise level right away when you first enter the room, especially, when you stay on the top floor.
