we stayed at the amsterdam marriot a week ago. after having previously visited amsterdam and stayed at lovely quiet hotels out of town this time we needed to be in the centre due to some temporary mobility problems.
the hotel didnt dissapoint; the rooms are beautiful and the beds simply amazing. i wish i new what they were, i'd buy one, we had two fantastic nights sleep in a huge king size.
we had an incredible view of amsterdam, and the room was cool and airy. the only dissapointment i have is that there are no facilities to make tea or coffee in the room. We had upgraded to the executive lounge so could go and fetch whatever we wanted but it would be nice to not have to leave the room early in the morning for a tea or coffee. only a minor thing though.
the executive lounge may not be amazing value for what you get in terms of food, but simply having a pleasant place to relax, get a drink and a cookie, maybe surf the internet and print off information for your next days activities was really useful and welcome. the breakfast buffet itself is fairly standard continental fayre, and i rather enjoyed the relaxed informal atmosphere in the room at breakfast time, people often share tables and it all seems a little friendlier than sitting just in rigid ones or twos.
the staff were friendly and courteous, even the lady i almost floored swinging my bag back onto my shoulder in the corridor as we arrived!
the concierge service was helpful in my request for sporting event tickets, though i did get 2 different answers from the 2 guys i asked over 2 days, i still got what i needed.
the hotel doesnt feel oppresively posh; it has some pretty relaxed public areas, the bar actually looks like a bar and there's a place to grab a Kip sate and frites or a pizza as well as a more formal restaurant. (the pizzas looked very small though)
while we were in reception we heard a bride from the UK complain that her room was filthy and demanding her money back but that wasnt our experience. i guess mistakes happen; or maybe some people just over react.
after we left we spent a week in a cottage in rural holland with the family. but both of us wished we were heading back to the marriot for a few more nights before we returned home.
