The hotel is situated near the Leidseplein, which is a very crowded square, but it is on the other side of the canal, so it is also separated from the Leidseplein madness. We had a clean, quiet room. There are also rooms with nice views of the Leidseplein, but the woman at the desk said they could be rather noisy. The hotel is very convenient for the art museums, and you can catch a tram just outside the hotel that will take you just about everywhere in the city. The hotel is close enough to everything, but far enough outside of the central section of the city to provide an escape from Amsterdam's hectic atmosphere. In regard to atmosphere, the hotel is rather generic Marriott American, and it doesn't offer European charm. So if you want that or if you want to be close to the train station, you probably should look elsewhere, but we found our experience here very positive.

We arrived late afternoon with two rooms booked. I decided to pay vs using points. Both rooms were on the 10th floor on the executive levels. The renovation is done and the rooms are nice. Big flat screen TV, good lights, nice desk and a very modern bathroom.

The lounge is on the 9th floor and gets very busy. Breakfast is good open 6am to 10am weekdays and 7am to 10am weekends. Cocktails hour is from 530pm to 930pm with food served. They have two computers in the lounge for free. Overall a good lounge with great finger food at night.

The gym open 24 hours is not bad for a hotel. They have 10 or so lifestyle tread mills/bikes. A full free weight area with at least 10 workout machines. One large rack in the middle of the floor. They offer water and towels plus a locker room. I used the gym everyday and was never super busy.

The location of the Marriott is very good. As with any hotel in Amsterdam, walking to anything is not that far. What I liked is it was quite. Our rooms faced the backside of the hotel not a sound could be heard. They do have rooms that face the main street. I would not want one of those. Not saying it would be bad but why take the chance. Ask for a room not facing the street. We walked the city 3 times from the Marriott it was easy.

Overall I am very happy with our choice of the Marriott. While it is rather expensive you get what you pay for. We did eat here once and the food was excellent. No complaints here at all!

Hotel is located in a good spot. They upgraded us to a nice large room. We used Marriott points for our stay. The only problem I had was a shifty cashier in the gift shop that tried to give me the wrong change. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

I've heard that finding a nice, comfortable accomodation in Amsterdam can be tricky. Originally, I had planned to stay in a B&B, but due to last minute booking, my choices were not available. However, I was delighted with the Marriott! It was extremely clean, with a super central location. The bed was very comfy and the bathroom was well appointed. The staff also were very friendly and helpful. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to any tourist looking for a great location and a great hotel.

we stayed at the amsterdam marriot a week ago. after having previously visited amsterdam and stayed at lovely quiet hotels out of town this time we needed to be in the centre due to some temporary mobility problems.

the hotel didnt dissapoint; the rooms are beautiful and the beds simply amazing. i wish i new what they were, i'd buy one, we had two fantastic nights sleep in a huge king size.

we had an incredible view of amsterdam, and the room was cool and airy. the only dissapointment i have is that there are no facilities to make tea or coffee in the room. We had upgraded to the executive lounge so could go and fetch whatever we wanted but it would be nice to not have to leave the room early in the morning for a tea or coffee. only a minor thing though.

the executive lounge may not be amazing value for what you get in terms of food, but simply having a pleasant place to relax, get a drink and a cookie, maybe surf the internet and print off information for your next days activities was really useful and welcome. the breakfast buffet itself is fairly standard continental fayre, and i rather enjoyed the relaxed informal atmosphere in the room at breakfast time, people often share tables and it all seems a little friendlier than sitting just in rigid ones or twos.

the staff were friendly and courteous, even the lady i almost floored swinging my bag back onto my shoulder in the corridor as we arrived!

the concierge service was helpful in my request for sporting event tickets, though i did get 2 different answers from the 2 guys i asked over 2 days, i still got what i needed.

the hotel doesnt feel oppresively posh; it has some pretty relaxed public areas, the bar actually looks like a bar and there's a place to grab a Kip sate and frites or a pizza as well as a more formal restaurant. (the pizzas looked very small though)

while we were in reception we heard a bride from the UK complain that her room was filthy and demanding her money back but that wasnt our experience. i guess mistakes happen; or maybe some people just over react.

after we left we spent a week in a cottage in rural holland with the family. but both of us wished we were heading back to the marriot for a few more nights before we returned home.

  • Liked — the utterly fantastic beds
  • Disliked — no drinks facilities in the rooms
