“Great Culture!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2009

Stayed with husband and children ages 9 yrs and 16 years for a long weekend. Great check-in. Free upgrade to executive rooms (Though no use of executive lounge). Rooms were clean, well appointed. Room service very good. Bar was good as well. Breakfast was good, though not as great a spread at Hilton. Food seemed to run out very quickly and we always had to ask for refills! Lots of americans staying.
Service by staff generally good.
Within execellent walking distance of restaurants in streets off Leidesplein. Bella Napoli was good. Also in the square behind the casino (where Hard Rock is) there is a Wagamma, and a wonderful chess board on the ground for players. It was a fantastic atmosphere. Spent happy evenings there.
Within walking distance to Van Gogh Museum (there's a good cafe), Anne Frank House.
We took the Bus from the airport No 197 to Leidesplein. The Marriott is 1 minute's walk from bus stop. The driver kindly told us to buy a ticket for € 12 which would cover the 4 of us, plus be valid for 24 hours. Thereafter, that is what we would buy. The concierge and the Tourist Information did not seem to know about this type of ticket. This ticket is only available on the Connexion buses. Just show the driver your expired ticket when you wish to buy a new one. Apparently this is quite a reasonable ticket.
Can take the bus to Magna Shopping Plaza near Dam Square. Can also go to Central Station. A nice outing is to Volendam. Take the bus to central station, then walk past the Tourist Information to the other Connexion buses. To Volendam you can take the 110 or the 118.
A small supermarket throughout amsterdam is Albert Hijn (Not sure about the spelling).

We decided to stay here based on reviews and location. Used Priceline to book it which was about $100 cheaper than the hotel website. The room was a little on the small side. We did not try the bar or restaurant so cannot comment. I agree with below review that there was a strange smell in the hallway but it was not in the room. We had room 730. There are so many places close by the hotel to eat/drink at. We peaked at the gym which had nice equipment and a good size. Only dissatisfier was that the internet was not free. From the airport, take bus #370 or 197 for 3.60 euro. Get off at Leidseplein stop and then just walk over the canal. The trams are very easy to use and we walked all over the city.

I stayed here with a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the location and quality of the hotel. The room was spacious and clean, and despite its central location, there was no noise at all in the room. We also loved the breakfast here, it's the typical Marriott breakfast so if you like variety and lots of made to order food, you will love the breakfast here.

It is an expensive hotel but if you are looking for a good quality place to stay, which is right in the middle of the city then look no further!

The greatest thing about this hotel are the outside staff - those standing outside the doors to greet you late at night - Robin was a gem and so helpful. However, the inside staff are not very friendly, and it wasn't just me. I heard them being short with others. I'm in Amsterdam often, and thought I would stay in Leidseplein while also gaining more Marriott points, but this one sucked. My room smelled of antisceptics, so toxic that even with the window open, I couldn't sleep well. Also, if you're an Hhonors member, don't expect an upgrade unless you're at least Diamond.

The restaurants in the hotel are great with great staff, and the location is wonderful, but the rooms are very small (even for European standards), and it didn't measure up to any other Marriotts in Europe or the States. It's just a very short walk across the bridge to be in the midst of everything, and with Museumplein to the right and the WonderPark, if you're never in your room, it's a great place. However, I won't be staying there ever again.

My last night, I got about 7 hours of sleep and woke up with a headache that lasted 2 days. Moreover, there was a constant dripping sound in the room when any air or heat was on. I kept trying to find where it was coming from and couldn't identify the location of the drip anywhere.

Lastly, the cost of Internet is quite high. I'm accustomed to this in Europe, but if you're looking for a free wireless connection or one at an affordable cost, don't stay here.

The Marriott's Amsterdam provided a clean, comfortable, modern room. No surprises here. However, there was nothing about it that told me I was in Amsterdam. I could have been in any number of corporate-type hotels throughout the world.

Our room was not large, but of adequate size. All the furnishings were modern. The bed was comfortable. The room was nice and quiet; even the air conditioner made little noise. The bathroom was modern and in great shape. Everything was nice and clean. An internet connection was available in the room but at a very high price.

It is located very close to major museums and the theater district, but required a tram ride (or taxi) to avoid a long walk from the train station.

Our stay was, altogether, very satisfactory, but nothing special.

I stayed at this hotel for several nights last November with my fiancee and his parents. We scored two double rooms via Priceline.com for $100 dollars per room - and it's been the best Priceline purchase to date! Although this hotel is part of an international chain and probably lacks the charm of a smaller local establishment, this was still a great hotel with 4 star service in a great location. The rooms were spotless and comfortable and the staff were helpful and attentive. We never ate at the restaurants in the hotel as I had many places in the city I wanted to try instead. There were several great restaurants right in the neighborhood and the Vondelpark is right outside your door. We never used them (prefering to walk everywhere) but the bus and tram lines ran right in front of the hotel. I have no idea of the usual rates for this place but if you can get a good price, it's a great base for exploring Amsterdam.

My family and I were pleasantly surprised by our weekend stay at the Marriott Amsterdam. The location is fantastic with good access to Vondel Park, Leidesplein, Museumplen, and plenty of closeby shopping. The surrounding neighborhood is quite nice and has plenty to offer.

Hotel rooms are good sized, particularly by European standards. However, there's no mistaking you're in a Marriott with their standard and recent fittings (I swear I've seen the carpet in Hartford, the wall paper at Maida Vale, and room fittings at Heathrow Marriott). It is generally nice and bedding including the sheets are super soft.

Vondel park is closeby and great for a bike ride or a picnic. The conceirge can arrange a booking for one of the hotel's bikes or you can try nearby bicycle shops (De Baron Fietsen on Overtoom street). I recommend stocking up on picnic fixings at Pepervoertel a small deli also on Overtoom.

The hotel restaurants are pretty average by Marriott standards but there a plenty of nearby options near Leidesplein and Overtoom streets. There's also a pancake restaurant in the small park across the street that provides a nice start to the day.

Public transit options are plentiful and you can catch several different trams at Leidesplein.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel.
