“Great Hotel by Shopping & Transportation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2014

From the time we entered we encountered some of the best service we have had in the 3 weeks we were in Europe. Extremely friendly, out of the way helpful, spoke excellent English(as most people do in Amsterdam), and took a lot of time mapping out what we should do during our stay. The rooms were slightly on the smallish side with our several suite cases taking up room, but well appointed; nice beds(not too hard or soft), average size bath, combo tub/shower with plenty of hot water, excellent A/C, refrigerator, coffee maker, ironing board, safe, plus nice and quiet. We were concierge level status, plus we paid a little extra for the free breakfast, nightly drinks with food, all I thought were very good and plentiful. The package did include free WiFi. The restaurant in the hotel was excellent, with one of the best hamburgers that we have ever had. The tap beer was cold and service very good. There are several other restaurants in the immediate area, a very good Holland pancake house across the street, about a block away is Leidseplein square with numerous outside dining options, plus another restaurant that I can't say enough about is MoMo's. This hotel is by the square where you can catch the trams and go to Dam Square or any where else in the city. We used them a lot. You buy your ticket from the driver. This hotel has some of the best bellman and concierges that we have ever encountered. You can't go wrong staying here!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 11th floor that overlooked the residential area. Very quiet, but like many newer h...

We stayed at the Marriott Amsterdam for two nights following a trip to Belgium. I would rate this hotel as good, but nothing exceptional. The common lobby is sort of strange; not open, confined, lack of space. The location is within close walking distance to the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijkmuseum, however, it is about a 20-25 minute walk to the Anne Frank house. The executive lounge is fair, but did not provide enough food for the amount of people it was serving during cocktail hour. Several times there were empty platters during peak hours. The best feature of this hotel is the Midtown Grill. If you're dreaming of a great Manhattan steakhouse, this is the place.
Superb dining and fabulous service.

This is either fortunately or unfortunately a typical American Hotel depending on how you look at it. Service is great, the attached Steak House (Midtown Grill) serves meat from Kansas and is very good. Probably the best beef in Amsterdam. The hotel has a great location and excellent staff. If you are looking for American style comfort in Amsterdam then this is the place. On the other hand if you want more of a European experience then maybe look elsewhere.

Had a chance to spend a few nights at the Marriot Amsterdam. Nice location and the room was a decent size. The staff was friendly and courteous and late night drinks in the bar in the back had quick and wonderful service. It is a nice location, and if you are not familiar with Amsterdam, just be careful with the bicycle/moped walkway when walking from hotel. Easy to get hurt as there is a walkway for pedestrians and another path for bikes and mopeds.

What was clearly disturbing was the cost for using the internet in the room and the breakfast. The cheapest you can get away with for breakfast is at least $30 for coffee and cereal. In addition, you pay almost $30 for 24 hours service for internet in the room. This is outrageous and I would suggest reviewing other hotels before booking this one. The rooms are not that good to pay this high fee.

Hope this helps.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel.

I am happy to read that you enjoyed our excellent location and were assisted in a courteous and friendly manner by our hosts.

I do regret that you found our prices for breakfast and internet too high, we do offer an executive lounge package which may reduce the costs for these services. If you travel to Amsterdam again, please do not hesitate to enquire about this as we would be happy to offer this to you.

We do hope to be able to welcome you back to the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel again in the future.

With kind regards,
Joost Berends
Assistant Front Office Manager

Our stay at this Marriott was very good. Most significantly, the staff was superb - everyone from check-in, to the concierge, to the bell staff. They made all the difference to our stay. Concierge was especially helpful setting us up with tickets to museums and various tours that we took. The hotel's location is also excellent - a walk away from the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum as well as the stop for he Hop off, Hop On bus network. Moreoever, there are three different streetcars that can take visitors to Centraal Station. The rooms are comfortable and clean. I would stay there in the future.

Room Tip: The rooms on the higher floors give you a good view of the city.

From the time we arrived from our flight from the US to coming back after a 12 day cruise, everything was perfect. When we arrived at 10:00 AM, a room was ready on the 8th floor facing the city. The room was large, clean, the beds comfy and perfectly quiet. We stayed for 2 1/2 days before the cruise and then returned after the cruise, deposited our luggage with the concierge (prior approval), did some last minute shopping in the Leidseplein, had a wonderful lunch at the Pancake Restaurant across from the Marriott before Kyra called a cab for our 17:00 flight.

I cannot say enough about the service of all the staff. It is a very busy, popular hotel with cruise passengers, airline personnel and general tourists, but Kyra and others were able to keep their cool friendly demeanor at all times. She is a "keeper"; awesome lady!

One of our friends traveling with us forgot to take his items out of the safe, including their passports and a very very large amount of cash. This was discovered as we tried to board the Celebrity. A supervisor from Celebrity and someone in Marriott management worked out a plan for our friend to take a taxi back to the hotel; papers were signed, and he was back 30 minutes before departure with documents and cash in hand! Awesome cooperation from all.

We found the quiet location perfect for us; trams were used by some in our party, but by and large we walked to all our destinations.

I cannot help but comment on the previous poster. Why would someone leave their passport, money, IPad, etc. unattended in this day and age? Passports, credit cards, and money should be stowed in a compartment under clothing that are sold worldwide to prevent just this from happening. And, to say a staff member might have been involved; shame! Couldn't a guest who had access to the room be the culprit?

Room Tip: Our 8th floor room facing Leidsplein was very quiet!

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel prior to joining a river cruise. The hotel was clean. The location is excellent for walking to Van Gogh, red Light District, Flower Market etc. Reception staff and concierge very friendly. Included buffet breakfast nice. The bed was so comfortable, slept like a baby.
We enjoyed our stay here.
