I have stayed for 4 days at Marriott Amsterdam with my wife and my 13 year old son. The reason for selecting that hotel was because of a very good deal from Expedia (700 euro total for 4 nights) and the very convenient location of the hotel.
Contrary to some previous review I have read here, the Marriott Amsterdam was very easy to reach by public transportation from the central station (tram n. 2 to Leidseplein, plus 2-3 minutes walk, for just 4.8 euro total).

We got a deluxe room, a large room with two twin beds, an elegant and comfortable bathroom, nice furniture and a wide LCD screen TV set. The hotel was very clean and the staff very professional. The only negative point was that our windows were looking at a major crossroad in front of Leidseplein and the traffic was noisy at night.

Even though large American-style hotels are not my favourite types when I travel in Europe (I prefer smaller stylish hotels), I greatly appreciated my staying at Amsterdam Marriott.

I also like Amsterdam very much and I think it is one of the most beautiful and charming cities in Northern Europe

If you want to go to Amsterdam, stay in this district. The environment is much cleaner and further away from the Red Light District, as that is growing and growing over the years. Amsterdam could be a beautiful city, but the drugs and sex make it a bit uncomfortable when traveling with family.

We stayed in the Marriot in the city center of Amsterdam for two days. We had never been to Amsterdam but have been to The Netherlands several times. We like the places and people so far but Amsterdam was our least favorite and the Marriot had something to do with that.

It was hard to get to from the central train station. We walked for at least 45 minuted before we finally got to the hotel. We arrived at the hotel at 11 am and our room wasn't ready yet. No problem for us because we wanted to explore the city. They offered to hold our luggage so we could go out and about. Everything okay so far.

When we returned at 3 PM our room wasn't ready still. Eager to freshen-up we inquired how long it was going to take. 15 minutes the staff said so we opted to wait in the reception area. We ended-up standing around for at least 40 minutes because all the local businessmen seem to use the lounge to keep meetings. No one of the staff offered any drinks or otherwise. When the room was finally ready (after asking at least 6 times) we got a key and that was it. We went up to the room and didn't find our luggage there. We called down to the reception and they appologised for not returning it to us. Then they told us to come down to indentify it but never offered us help to get it to our room! How rude! They didn't even have a cart to use.

The room was nice and the hotel itself was great, but the people ruin it. It might be an Amsterdam thing because everyone seemed to be rude. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a New Yorker so I'm used to something. But this was out of the ordinary.

The upside is the location of the hotel and the breakfast which is nice. But honestly we won't stay here anymore and we won't visit Amsterdam anymore either. Been there, done that. Never again!

Located in the Liedesplein area, this hotel is in easy walking distance from public transportation. Lots of restaurants nearby (both local and chain restaurants like Hard Rock Cafe.) Also lots of good shopping. Convenient to the big art museums.

The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable (lots of pillows and a cushy comforter!), the bathroom was large and had all the amenities. Very quiet and you can get a good night's sleep.

Check in and out was easy and the staff were very helpful. The only complaint I had was that you had to pay for Internet access, which should be free.

We stayed 2 nights at the Hilton and 2 nights at the Marriott. The Marriott is located smack in the center of everything. You couldn't ask for a more central location. We upgraded to an executive room and had breakfast and cocktails everyday at the Exec. suite. Food was great and had a nice selection.
