after several years we decided to book Marriott Amsterdam again for a weekend trip. Since my mother and partner both celebrated their birthdays there I wrote to the hotel in advance to get nice rooms and to book a table at the hotel restaurant Midtown Grill.
As announced we arrived early (10am), so the rooms reserved for us were not ready. So the checkin lady offered us rooms with a view to the backyard instead of the view rooms. They turned out to be a good choice. Although the view is really nasty and gives views to walls and aircon units, its much more silent then the Leidsesqure view.
are very nice, typical Marriott standard, good beds and pillows. Small bathrooms but all amenities there, robes and slippers have to ordered. Room service has to improve a bit since the glass trays above the bar holding glasses were really dusty.
We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant every day and dinner once and really loved it, great food and service. World Class Steaks.
Check-in staff was nice, although I missed congratulations when two people having birthday the same day are checking in. Although I have to say, that at the same day a small birthday gift with a nice birthday card was delivered to the rooms.
There are two durch consierges, which are really nice and helpful. At check-uot none of them was there and two other guys (obviously non-durch) chatting in front of the entrance. After waiting for 10 minutes in front of the concierge desk one of the reception girl got them in to help with our luggage we wanted to store for the rest of the day.
I had one paper bag extra with fragile cups and I asked him ,if he can take care on this. The guy just said: "You have to carry them with you". When I told him, that I dont want to carry the bag for the entire day with me he just replied "When they break, its your own faul".
Hmm, somehow right, but I would expect in a Marriott to get this message in a more polite way
high floor, room to backside if you like to sleep with open windows, Leidseplein view if you prepfer...
