hotel is in a really good location for concerts at the melkweg venue which is a 5 min stroll away (although the venue suffers from really poor organization, shame cos it has a great intimate atmosphere). got the train from the airport into town which only took 15 mins and was about 4 euros, then took a 1 or 5 tram for 5 mins to get to the hotel. lovely comfy bed with lots of squidgy pillows. vondelpark is a five minute walk to the right from the hotel, boat trips leave just opposite the park, the hard rock cafe is also opposite the park. if you come out of the hotel cross over and head straight on for a few mins there is a nice restaurant called gauchos which does lovely steak and chicken (near to bulldog cafe). carry on walking for all of the shops (the adidas shop is pretty cool). the french toast in the quoy hotel restaurant for breakfast is yummy. staff and the hotel were pretty much all very friendly and helpful, was a bit of a surprise to be told we had to pay a few extra euros of 'city tax' when we arrived. the biggest problem i found in the city is that everyone smokes everywhere, there is no escape, as it was freezing cold we had to wear many layers of clothes and as soon as you go in a restaurant / bar / shopping centre your clothes reek of cigarette smoke.
