“Great Location and Services”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

I stayed 5 nights at the Amsterdam Marriott and had a very good stay. The room was good and well kitted-out and had UK/US power sockets as well as european. The Midtown Grill provided very nice meals on the two occasions I ate there and Sorel's Bar does great cocktails/beers and a terrific burger. Very well placed in Amsterdam for Vondelpark, Reijksmuseum, Heineken Museum etc. The staff were very helpful in attending to a few requests I had, and went beyond the call of duty helping me print-off some boarding passes in their back office. I found all the staff to be very pleasant and friendly throughout the hotel.
Executive Lounge is nice and pretty peaceful outside the hours when they serve breakfast and late afternoon snacks.
There's a few Albert Heijn supermarkets in the area and an interesting place called Marqt just around the corner on Overtoom, if you need to stock up on supplies.

We chose this hotel for a one night stopover on the tail end of a trip through France and Italy. My daughter wanted to see the Van Gogh museum, and this was located nearby. It was a great choice. From the airport, we took the 197 bus (4 euro) directly to the street fronting the hotel. The concierge was one of the most helpful we've met, obtaining the museum tickets for us (thus bypassing the very long ticket line), gave us dinner recommendations for rijstaffel, locations for free wifi, and the bus schedule for our return trip in the morning.

Beds were ahhh, soft and fluffy with lovely duvets. You'll only appreciate this after a few weeks in Italian hotels. There's little local charm in this hotel, but lots of wonderful comfort. The location is good, near to the Museumplein, shopping, Leidseplein with all it's eateries and entertainment, and quiet despite it all.

Perfect for a stopover from Schipol or a longer stay to explore beautiful Amsterdam.

We (2 parents and young adult son) recently stayed here for 5 nights. The hotel itself is really top-notch and everything you expect from a modern upscale Marriott. The rooms are nice and spacious; there are a few lounges in the lobby; a little courtyard to sit in on nice days; and a general feeling of high class and comfort. The staff is truly friendly and helpful and committed to serving you in any way that they can. Because this is Amsterdam, nearly all the staff also speak very good English.

The Marriott also has a very good location. It is located just a few blocks from the Leidseplein, a major eating, shopping, and late-night area. The Leidseplein is packed with restaurants-some of them touristy, some of them less so-and is one of the main entertainment districts outside of the area near Dam Square/Centraal Station/the Red Light District. I personally found the Leidseplein a bit too touristy but extremely convenient with so many places to eat. Also the Leidseplein is a major tram stop so you can go from there to most other places of importance in Amsterdam. In terms of sight-seeing, the Marriott is also just a 10-min. walk from the Museumplein, where you will find 3 of the major art museums in the city-the Van Gogh Museum; the Rijksmuseum; and the Stedelijk Museum. In sum, if you can afford it, the Marriott offers a great combo of feeling pampered with a convenient location.

Hotel is in a wonderful location within walking distance of museums and good restaurants. There's a lovely pancake restaurant in the square right across the street.

Rooms are large and service is very good.

The big surprise was the excellent Indonesian food in the bar, which is not to be missed since a table in front of a window also provides great people and bicycle watching.

This hotel makes a very good base for exploring Amsterdam attractions, with decent rooms, good location with access to trams and a great executive lounge.

Upsides: location is close to attractions and trams and near Vondelpark (great for running/relaxing), safe/clean neighborhood for families, executive lounge is good deal, closer to Schiphol than some, will sleep 3.

Downsides: it's expensive, exterior and hallways are tired/dated, desk is always crowded, front door staff are unhelpful and have an attitude, far from train station, slow elevators.

Room Tip: The Executive Lounge package provides a great breakfast, free happy hour cocktails and even a light...

When you first see the building, you first thought is UH-OH because the building looks old. But the lobby has been recently refurbished and the rooms as well. I later learned that this is the first Marriott outside of the US.
One thing good about old hotels is the rooms are large. The beds are huge double beds and very comfortable. We stayed here for a week and were very pleased with everything. We had access to the lounge and the spread was great. It was also a fantastic place to chill after all the biking and touring.
The location is TOPS. When you're travelling with kids, it's so easy to return to the hotel to dump shopping stuff or return to pick a up a jacket, etc since it's so central. Won't stay anywhere else in beautiful Amsterdam.

The Marriott in Amsterdam is in a great location, just a few blocks from major museums and within reasonable walking distance of many sights. And, it is on a plethora of bus and tram lines and so getting around Amsterdam is very easy. The hotel itself is nicely laid out with lot of sitting area, a decent business center (though it charges for printing), and pleasant people. I stayed on the executive floor and this included access to the executive lounge with a fine breakfast and drinks and light food at 5:30, followed by deserts a bit later. All this, as well as internet, was included in the price. I originally booked a regular room and then realized that the difference in price for executive was more than made up for by the breakfast, internet, etc.

The one issue I have is that if I did not have the executive floor internet is ridiculously expensive (almost 20 euros for 24 hours), although that includes access for three devices and it was pretty high speed.

My room was very comfortable with a good desk, really great lighting, good temperature control, a nice bathroom, etc.
