“Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

Loved this hotel - spent christmas there last year. It was in a great location, the room was modern and comfortable although a little on the small side. We paid extra for a balcony room and the balcony was more like a ledge - no tables of chairs out there..but the view of the christmas markets was amazing. Breakfast was lovely and the chef made amazing eggs benadict. 5 minute walk to the ice skating rink at the van gough.. lots of bars and restaurants within a 5 minute walk too. Loved it. Would recommend (it was a little bit pricey though!!)

As noted in the title, this hotel is in a great location. It’s close to good restaurants, trams, shopping and a good home base for exploring the city. If you’re looking to be in the heart of city center, this hotel may not be the right choice for you as it’s on the outer edge and a bit of a hike to the Damn Square and other primary tourist attractions.

For those of you who have stayed at a Marriott in the past you know what I mean when I say typical Marriott. The hotel is clean and the rooms are filled with furniture from the Marriott house of furniture - all the same the world around (With some exceptions).

The rates are a bit steep compared to other hotels in the area, but if you’re familiar with the Marriott chain there is a degree of comfort in consistency. Use caution when booking the lowest rates on the web as they are often duration stay rates, if you check out early you still pay. Ask when you book if your stay is flexible.

Rooms are clean; the staff is friendly and helpful. Marriott concierge lounge is on the first floor just off the lobby. Room service is available and again based on the global Marriott template (e.g. Marriott burger). Plenty of outlets in the rooms, including a selection of US and European style outlets as well as wired internet access in the rooms and wireless in the lobbies.

Restaurant and bar downstairs are nice and when raining are a great location to enjoy a coffee or adult beverage while watching bikes, cars, trams and people pass in front of the hotel.

Very nice workout room also on the first floor and oddly located just off of the bar and restaurant entrance. You’ll need to walk past the bar lobby to get to the gym entrance.

A good hotel, great location and solid amenities make this hotel a good place to book if you’re looking for full service consistent chain experience that’s within easy walking or tram distance from city center attractions.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the front of the hotel as they face the Casino and canals, a fun view of car, bike...

The hotel was really nice (the common rooms) . Reception and concierge were very very kind and helpful : nobody accepted a € 500 note and they changed easily in small ones. The rooms are too small for a family and not perfect clean and tidy. The house keeping manager was very kind and apologized for the situation : she sent a basket of fruit and some beverages to us.
The location is wonderful and you can easily reach the museum area and dowtown walking or taking trams and buses (we had the City card Iamsterdam so that we could jump the queue for museums). The gym in the hotel was very nice and clean and breakfast was very rich and fresh.

Stayed by using my Marriott points and was upgraded to a executive room overseeing the canals. Nice room but toilet and sink didn't work properly. As said many times before here, no wireless in the rooms which is quite bad. Avoid using the phones as the rates are ridiculous. Valet parking fee is € 49 which is very expensive, if you don't mind walking, better use a public parking nearby. It was pouring with rain but we couldn't get an umbrella from the hotel, very disappointing!

The Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh are nearby. The concierge sells tickets at cost price and that helps you to jump the long queues, good service!

The breakfast in the exec lounge was ok, nothing special. Didn't try the restaurant as there as so many good places to eat nearby.

The hotel has an excellent location.

Behind the hotel, there is a park and a swan lake. It is beautiful and scenic. Buy some food from the supermarket (15 mins walk away) and you can conveniently picnic there!

Cross the road and you are at the entrance of the hustle bustle walking street.

Within 10 mins radius, you can find the van gogh, "I AMSTERDAM" sign, heineken brewery... ...

The hotel also provides tour packages to the wind mill tour, cheese factory & madurodam (miniature city).

The staff are very helpful and friendly when I ask them to recommend me some good resturant to go to.

The rooms are small but very comfortable.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay in Amsterdam, marriot hotel.

Being a Marriott one would expect the best of everything & this hotel is just that. Mind you , Breakfast was very poor value for money. 100 meters accross the canal there are endless eateries with great breakfasts from 6 Euros for coffee, bacon & eggs.

Room Tip: If you need to smoke, request a room with a balcony

Recently stayed here for a business trip and I enjoyed my time, room was spacious and clean.

As I travel a lot for business I see a wide range of hotels, I was very impressed with the Marriott and will definitely try another one!

The executive lounge was great for breakfast before or drinks after a days work.
