“Surprisingly Great Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

I was hesitant about staying at the major chain hotel in Europe when there are so many boutique hotels that offer better experiences for the money. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. The service was great, the rooms were first-rate luxury and convenience, and it's very well located. The one and only complaint would be the inability for the valet to get a taxi when there are many available on the street about 25 meters away. I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Make sure you're near the elevator as it's quite cavernous and rooms can be quite a walk.

We found this hotel very clean and comfortable. The service was quite good. The staff was knowledgable. There had tickets to many of the local museums that would allow you to bypass long lines. We had a standard king size bed. The room was clean, comfortable and modern. There was an excellent workout facility with a good mixture of equipment, including a rowing machine in addition to ususal treadmills and ellipticals. The only downside was that the internet fees were quite expensive (19.95 Euros/24-hrs).

We had less than 24 hours in which to see Amsterdam and wanted to see as much as possible. Thanks to the concierge we were able to see original Rembrandts, Vermeer's, The Anne Frank House and have a lovely dinner cruise through the canals in the evening. Not a minute was wasted. He printed out the tickets and made the reservations we needed, drew us up a map and sent us on our way. Luckily the weather was perfect and we had a wonderful time exploring Amsterdam.
The rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable.
Our only complaints are that the hotel does not have free wi-fi, not even in the lobby and there was only shampoo in the bathroom, no hair conditioner. We were in three hotels while on our trip and none had hair conditioner, must be a European thing.

Within walking distances to EVERYTHING (trams, buses, canal boats, museums, restaurants, shopping). The doorman is very helpful in giving directions. The staff were all friendly and professional. Was able to get a room with a great view of the city. Our room was clean but the carpet looked dirty - spots and stains. Everything else was comfortable and presentable. Didn't like having to go to the first floor to the executive lounge. Seemed like anyone could piggyback in there. The breakfast, hors d'oeuvres, and dessert was delicious in the executive lounge.

We stayed the 2nd and 3rd of October , 2011 and were so pleased with the location and the quality of the hotel. Near the Leidesplein and all bus/tram lines, this hotel made visiting Amsterdam a joy.Just out of the crazy of the center, this hotel is almost next door to the Rijksmuseum and walkable (15 minutes) to most all other sites. Clean, well appointed and with a professional staff, we highly rec'd this hotel.

Room Tip: we were on 6th, Higher better for noise factor

Being a comfort needer, I booked the Marriott in Amsterdam for my mom's and my trip to the city October 1 - 3 2011. We were lucky, and got an early special, but the standard of the room would have been worth a higher price. First of all, the beds were HUGE, very comfortable, and offered a selection of pillows, so I found one that fit me (very unusual at hotels). The staff was nice from we walked through the doors the first time, until we left the last day. The room was big, nice and clean. The consierge was very helpful, and pointed us in the right direction to everything we wanted to see. The location was fabulous, and not at all as far from "everything" as I though when I just looked at the map. Also, the bus to and from the airport stops just nearby, and costs 4 Euros per person, which made it a good alternative to taxi (about 28 Euros one way). Will definitely visit again if I go back to Amsterdam.

My family of four stayed in two rooms in the Marriot Amsterdam hotel. Our room was roomy; the bed was comfortable; the bath was well appointed; the staff was helpful; and the central location was very convenient to everything. We loved walking to nearby restaurants and shops. The only downside to our hotel was the expense of eating there. In our other European hotels, breakfast was included. Here - breakfast was not included and was very expensive. We just ate elsewhere. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
