This place's one saving grace is its location but as Amsterdam is so small this really shouldn't be a factor.

The furniture was very worn and old, the linen was off white and looked dirty and the room we got was freezing as the air con didnn't work properly. We asked (twice) way in advance for a room that was NOT over the front of the hotel. This was confirmed as being not a problem but of course we ended up with a room over the front of the hotel. The staff were on the whole nice but when our Connexxions bus(dont use this crowd you'll be waiting in the cold for your mini-bus) was delayed and we asked the desk staff to contact them we were told "Connexxions is a third party" and basically told to wait. Not service you'd expect for that price, though some of the staff were friendly enough.

Which brings me to my last point. Without doubt, this is the WORST VALUE FOR MONEY hotel I have ever stayed in. The cost compared to what you got was abysmal. I only booked here because it was over New Years and literally this was the last hotel available.

Very good location, close to central train station, trams, bicycle rentals and local attractions

We spent 2 nights here and would say the location is fantastic. 5 minutes walk from Central Station, near to shops and restaurants with a 5 minute walk to Dam Square.
The hotel is supposed to be 5 star, but we would say its a 4 star. The rooms we had were very comfy, especially the beds and we asked for non-smoking and thats what we got, although as a previous review said, there was definitely a 'smoking smell' in the corridors. The bathrooms could do with being refurbished, but were clean.
The bar / reception area was ok, but we felt the hotel could do with a lounge area with setees etc.(there was one for Club rooms, but they were considerably more expensive rooms).
The food was good in the bar and for the breakfasts, although sometimes the 'buffet hot plates' were empty and we had to wait for them to be replenished. We didn't eat in the restaurant.
The swimming pool is not very big, but in a capital city centre I suppose to be expected, although we would have spent more time in the 'leisure' area had there been more there.
Security was excellent as you needed your room key to access the lifts as well as your room and late at night they ask to see the room key before letting you in.
The staff were friendly and all spoke English very well.
We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends.

RECOMMENDED: A short walk from the main train station, this property is starting to show it's age. Dimly lit rooms, bathroom fittings showing their age. BUT this is Amsterdam and it's convenient location and relative quiet make this an OK choice for your visit. The restaurant is to be avoided.
